East Albemarle News

September 2023

It is hard to believe that we have been in school almost a full month! During the first weeks of this school year your child(ren) have worked to learn our expectations, make great choices, and to show us what they know and remember from last year. Teachers have spent time getting to know students, building relationships, and assessing to determine the best learning plan for your child. We are very thankful the year has started smoothly and are looking forward to a super successful month of September! Thank you for all you have done to support your child at home and our staff at East Albemarle!

September will be a busy month! Review this newsletter to ensure you are aware of important safety procedures and upcoming events. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your child's teacher or the main office at East Albemarle for support.

School Holiday - September 4th

Monday, September 4th, is a school holiday in observance of Labor Day. There will be no school for students or staff on this day to allow families to celebrate American workers who have demonstrated amazing perseverance and strength. I hope you all enjoy the longer weekend!

Students should return to campus on Tuesday, September 5th.

Dismissal Procedures

Student safety is our top priority at all times, but particularly during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. It is important that all families adhere to our procedures to protect students and respect everyone's time.

Car Riders - It is very important that car rider families ...

  • clearly display a Car Rider Tag (click here!) in the front windshield each afternoon.
  • remain in the vehicle in the car rider line during afternoon dismissal. Families are not permitted to exit the vehicle and walk up to pick up a child.

Walkers - Our SRO and Mrs. Summerlin escort walkers across the Main Street crosswalk each afternoon to meet parents on foot.

  • This is NOT a place for cars to park to pick up a child and avoid the car rider line.
  • Parked cars in this area create a safety and traffic hazard on Main Street and Morningside Avenue.

Early Checkouts - Early checkouts are not permitted after 3:15 pm.

  • If you need to pick up your child after 3:15 pm, they will be sent to the car rider line for dismissal at 3:40 pm.
  • We understand you or your child may have an appointment around that time, in that case plan to pick them up prior to 3:15 pm.

Thank you in advance for helping us ensure the safety of your child and others each day!

1st Quarter Progress Reports - September 5th

Your child will receive their first quarter progress report on Tuesday, September 5th. The report will be sent home in their Tuesday Folder. Review the measures of progress with your child and celebrate their accomplishments! This is also a great time to help them set goals for the remainder of the quarter. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your child's teacher by phone, email or send a Class Dojo message.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

On Tuesday, August 29th, East Albemarle students brought home an envelope for our annual Krispy Kreme fundraiser. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and our East Albemarle families, have helped us raise much needed funds in the past and we are looking forward to another successful sale this year!

We hope your child was able to begin selling Krispy Kreme items earlier this week; they may continue to sell through September 5th. Order forms and funds are due back to East Albemarle on September 6th. Orders will be ready for pick up on September 14th between 5:30 and 7:00 pm from our cafeteria. These dates, along with pricing information, the order form, tips for safe selling, and incentives were tucked inside the Krispy Kreme envelope that came home with your child on August 29th. Thank you in advance for selling Krispy Kreme treats to your family and friends!
