School Newsletter
09 September, Term 3 - Week 7
Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers
A special welcome to Darius who has joined Rākau Nui, Jack in R4 in Team Pounamu and to Noelle and Taj who have started school in Team Uenuku. Kia ora and welcome to our friendly school!
Pizza Fundraiser
A big thank you to families who supported the school by taking part in the Dominos pizza fundraiser. We are fundraising for a climbing frame for the bank between Pounamu and Uenuku next to the junior playground. Thanks Dominos for supporting our school! Together we raised $600!
Mask Update
From Monday 12 September, we will no longer be requiring students to wear masks indoors. Mask wearing is still encouraged at school. Should COVID cases begin to increase or we start to see in school transmission, we will review this decision. All adults will still be required to wear masks.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)
What a great "P" day the school had last week, celebrating our GROW values and how amazing the tamariki are at showing Grit, Respect, Others and Wonder. I hope you enjoy the few photos scattered through the newsletter!

Mobility Car Park
Unless you hold a mobility parking permit please do not park in our disabled parking space. This space is needed multiple times each day by at least one of our families and vehicles not displaying a mobility parking permit have been preventing them from accessing it.
Parents are asked to park on the street as the car park is for staff vehicles only.
Enrolment Scheme
Enrolment at our school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our website, www.paparangi.school.nz. The board has determined that up to 10 places will be available for out-of-zone students in our first enrolment period for 2023. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
The first enrolment period for next year runs from 17 December 2022 - 6 April 2023. For students seeking enrolment within term one, the deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone places is 15 October 2022. If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Tuesday 18 October 2022. Parents will be informed of the outcome of their application within three working days of the ballot being held. Details of how applications from out of zone students are processed are available on our school website.
Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend to enrol their child at any time during this year or next year please also notify the school as soon as possible to assist the school to plan appropriately.
This notice will be published on the Paparangi School website, in newsletters and emailed to families who live out of the zone. A copy may also be requested from the school office - email office@paparangi.school.nz or call 04 4786617. Please note a public notice will no longer be published in the local newspaper. We ask that families please ensure your contact details, including address, are always up to date.

Conservation Week
This week the Rākau Nui Eco Warriors visited classes across the school to teach enviro themed lessons supporting the message of ‘acting for nature’ for Conservation Week. The tamariki were involved in all sorts of student designed and led lessons such as planting seeds, learning about native birds and their calls, recycling, identifying pests and identifying different types of worms we might find in our backyard! It was great to see the older tamariki supporting both their peers and the younger children to show wonder and take action for our environment in such a meaningful way. Thank you to all the Eco Warriors involved who designed these lessons and volunteered their time to help invoke wonder and spread their messages promoting sustainable practice and kaitiakitanga in our school and community. Ka rawe!
Want to know how you can take action for Conservation Week as a family this weekend? Take a look at these awesome ideas from the Department of Conservation!
Twigland Garden Centre Donation
A few weeks ago, the Eco Warrior Public Relations Team wrote and sent letters to local businesses asking for donations of gardening items to help us rejuvenate our school gardens. We had an amazing reply from Ryan and the team at Twigland Garden Centre who were more than happy to help support our tamariki with their endeavours and donated a large amount of planting goods including soil, gloves, tools and a lot of seeds to help our Eco Warrior Planting Team to continue to learn, explore and teach others about growing edible plants.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Twigland Garden Centre for their donation. We are so incredibly lucky to have local businesses in our community such as this who are willing to help support our school. With Spring in the air, what better time to think about your own gardens and show you support in return by visiting the expert team at Twigland Garden Centre to browse their huge selection of plants, gardening gear and gifts!
