What's News at Magee?
July 24, 2020
What I did not spend a lot of time looking at was what would happen when COVID-19 came to our own home. The symptoms came on slowly with headaches first, then nausea, abdominal pain and the cough. I never did have a fever. I was tested twice. The first test took 18 days. The second took 3 days. I was self-quarantined from when the cough started and I realized what was happening until the guidelines cleared me - which was 16 days officially. I stayed home a few more days because the cough would sometimes sneak up on me and let's face it, everyone looks at you when you cough in public places.
I am doing fine and am almost back to normal. I am sharing because we did NOT do everything right related to isolation and quarantine at first. We just did not know the details that are so important - we didn't think we would get it! Once symptoms show, quarantine starts. Don't wait for the test results. It is hard to stay home and away from people but it is SO important for EVERYONE's health! Clearly, I could have been spreading it all over had I been out and about - especially coughing without a mask!
I would urge each family to become familiar with the requirements when an exposure happens or if symptoms develop in you or your child. Waukesha County has a fantastic website full of detailed information.

Some Things to Think About...
With a lot of information coming out in the last week, it will be very important to read carefully as many things will look different at school. We are excited to have students back face to face in a safe way or distance learning if that is how your learner participates.
As our students and staff will be wearing face coverings, this information from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services is really helpful. Cloth Face Coverings in Schools
I know that I am working on getting back to a schedule for bed time and for waking up - although the hot weather is a good motivator to get out and run early! It has been a long time since our learners had a predictable daily schedule. No matter how your child will be learning in the fall, it would be good to start gradually so September is not such a struggle.
