WESTBROOK NEWS & UPDATES
Greetings From Our New Assistant Principal Ms. Dobson
My name is Emma Dobson and I am so excited to be a wildcat as your new Assistant Principal!
I started my career teaching kindergarten in Spanish in the Dual Language Program. I love my students, their families and getting to know them. Last year I was a lead teacher in the Dual Language program and had so much fun supporting all our teachers.
I also love learning. I am currently working on my doctorate and have had the opportunity to study in Peru, Spain, and India. This next summer I will have the opportunity to study in South Korea. Traveling, meeting new people and learning about each new place is my favorite. This summer I traveled to Greece and also got a labradoodle puppy. Olive is full of energy and keeps me laughing.
Education is where my heart is because I want to make a difference in the world and this is where everything starts. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!
Mr. Hottovy's joke of the Week
This week's joke... What do you call a boomerang that doesn't come back when you throw it?
Westside's Safe Return to School Plan
To start the 2021/22 school year, we will require all elementary students, staff and anyone visiting elementary buildings to wear masks while inside school through 6pm on weekdays. Families of students younger than 12 years do not yet have the choice whether their children will receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Our elementary students will be allowed to be mask-free while outside and when safety measures can be properly accommodated. Secondary students, staff and those visiting our secondary buildings have the personal choice to wear or not wear masks while inside school, as these students and their families have been eligible to make the choice on whether or not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The decisions/guidelines included in our plan will be in effect through September 17, 2021 unless conditions warrant changes sooner. We will be sending out that detailed plan covering many topics later tomorrow. Please understand we will continue to closely monitor the number of positive cases reported within our school district and community. We reserve the right to make adjustments as needed to include the elimination of required mask usage or the expansion of required mask usage to all grade levels and buildings.
Please know we are doing the best we can to keep our students learning safely in school. We appreciate your continued support, engagement and teamwork.

Parents of new students are welcome to join us on either August 17th or 19th at 9:00am for our new parent breakfast. Attention Fifth Grade Students and Parents
You are invited to BE A PART OF THE MUSIC! This fall, you will have the opportunity to do what so many successful students have done before you by being a part of Band and Strings! In the first three weeks of school we will be visiting all the buildings, demonstrating the instruments, and giving students the opportunity to select an instrument of their choice. We will have a parent meeting about our program on Tuesday, August 31 at 6:30 pm at Westside Middle School. All are welcome to attend to learn about elementary instrumental music and meet the teachers. We are excited to introduce your child to the world of instrumental music!

Parent AHERA Notifications for 2021-2022 School Year
Annual AHERA Notice
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) requires each public school district to annually notify parents, staff, and employee groups of its asbestos management plans. A management plan is in place for Westbrook Elementary and is available for review either at the school building or at the Westside Service Center, 9437 J St. Omaha, NE.
This school building was originally inspected in the1980’s and re-inspected by a certified inspector every three years thereafter. The three-year re-inspection and a ceiling tile inspection was conducted in 2019, and periodic surveillance will be conducted as required. No abatement activities are currently in progress or scheduled for the 2021-2022 school year at this building.
The Designated Person responsible for managing the District’s AHERA compliance and the contact person for questions or to review a management plan is the Director of Facilities, Russ Olsen (402) 390-8331.
