Social Studies - ABC's of Wisconsin Book
We are almost finished! Students are putting the final touches on their final drafts and illustrations. I am so proud of everyone! The book will be fantastic, I can't wait to see the final product!
Please make sure to return your child's order form as soon as possible! If you are not ordering a book, please make sure to still sign the permission slip at the bottom of the form. Your signature gives us permission to publish your child's work in our book. If you do not sign the permission slip, your child's work will not be able to be included in our book. Please contact me with any questions.
Envisions Math
Right now, some students are working on factors and will begin learning about fractions next week. Other students are finishing up their division work and will be taking the assessment tentatively next week.
Please have your child practice their multiplication facts at home daily. Even if it is for 5 minutes, the hard work and practice will pay off and be so beneficial. This fall, I sent home information regarding an online math program called "First In Math". We have a subscription for every student in our class. Students are encouraged to practice at home if able. If you do not have internet access, please use flash cards or practice orally with your child. Thanks for your support!
Wonders
We are continuing this week's reading, grammar, and spelling work. In reading, we have been practicing reading stories and figuring out what point of view the story is being told from. For example, third person is someone telling the story from an outside view point that typically uses pronouns such as him and her. Stories told in the first person point of view are when the storyteller is telling the story from their own point of view.
In grammar, we've been practicing verbs (action verbs and helping verbs). In spelling, we are continuing our study of r-controlled vowels.
Word Workout
- Words to Know: paragraph clues In this activity, you will help your child use this week’s words to complete a paragraph of a story.
- Spelling/Phonics: r-controlled vowels You will make a list of the spelling words, leaving out the letter r and the vowel next to it. You will say the word, and your child will fill in the missing letters.
Comprehension: point of view
In this activity, you and your child will compare your memories of the same event. First, choose and discuss an event that you shared. It could be a birthday, a holiday celebration, or something you did together. Then have your child write about the event from your point of view while you write about it from his or her point of view.
