10 facts you didn't know about the Bipolar Disorder

Fact 1: The Bipolar Disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability in the world. It is also the most paid for disorder in the United States.

Fact 2: The average age of a person to have BD is 25 and starts mostly around the ages between 15- 30.

Fact 3: The highest risk factor is having a relative with BD. People with a relative or sibling with BD are 4 to 6 times more likely to develop the disorder.

Fact 4: Therapy is always necessary. BD is a depression, so its essential to get therapy and help from a professional.

Fact 5: Its not just mental, but it can be physical. In some cases, BD can cause physical discomforts and head aches, if so treat yourself well.

Fact 6: In order to be classified as BD, you must have had it for more than 2 weeks, but can range at its ending point.

Fact 7: During any depression, you loose energy; mentally and physically. Meaning you may work and/or study less.

Fact 8: There are five different types of BD; Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymia, Mixed episodes and Rapid-cycling.

Fact 9: Depression is the main type of BD. Other symptoms consist of Mania, Hypomania and Mixed episodes.

Fact 10: Mania is the mental illness marked by periods of great excitement, euphoria, delusions and over activity.
