Pacific Sky Family Update
Principal's Weekly Message 10/8 - 10/13
Dear Pacific Sky Families,
Thursday, October 19th, Pacific Sky will hold our annual STEAM+ night and you won’t want to miss it! Starting at 5:30 pm, families can engage in STEAM+ learning together at our annual STEAM+ Family Night.
We look forward to seeing you and our families engage in movement, art, obstacles, design, and engineering. This fun family event will provide an outstanding opportunity to see and experience the joy of learning your children engage in through their weekly STEAM+ classes! You won’t want to miss this STEAM-tastic event!
Additionally, we are excited to host our annual Book Fair that will occur Monday, Oct. 23rd - Friday, October 27th. Come one, come all, to our 2nd annual Book Fair! This year’s fair will be hosted by Literati.

Lastly, Exciting News! Last week Pacific Sky School was awarded two Orchid Awards at the annual Orchids & Onions Awards Ceremony in downtown San Diego. The awards were kept secret until the event, and we were thrilled that the Pacific Sky School project was recognized with two Orchids: Orchid Award for Interior Design and Orchid Award for Landscape Architecture! Orchids & Onions is a program of the San Diego Architectural Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of outstanding architecture, planning, and urban design throughout the San Diego region. The awards program has been a tradition since 1976 and underscores the community’s role in shaping the built environment. We are so excited that our amazing school was recognized with two such prestigious awards!

This year at Pacific Sky, the goal in Art is to encourage growth mindsets and a love for Art by learning the 8 different Studio Habits of Mind: Developing Craft, Stretch and Explore, Express, Engage and Persist, Envision, Observe, Reflect, and Understanding Art Worlds, and utilizing a TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) Art Studio. We will be exploring how Art can be created and thought about using our Hands, Hearts, and Minds and students will be able to apply these learnings in different mediums of their choosing at different Studio Centers including drawing, painting, collage, 3D sculpting, cardboard, fiber, and digital arts.
Halloween Happenings at Pacific Sky
Students are welcome to wear costumes to school on Tuesday, 10/31. Because we have limited use in the restrooms, costumes should stay on all day or work over regular clothes to be easily taken off in the classroom. We will have a Halloween Parade on the morning of Tuesday, October 31st.
Costume selection: We ask for your help in the selection of appropriate costumes, and for wise parental judgment in what you allow your child to wear to school on this day. Costumes should be appropriate for all students in the K-6 age range (5–12 years old). Please encourage your child to select a costume reflecting a positive emphasis, such as a storybook character or a humorous or playful depiction of everyday life. Students may not bring toy knives, guns or any weapons, and may not use blood or wear scary masks. In addition, please be cognizant of the diversity within our school community and refrain from selecting a costume that could be offensive to members of our diverse population.
