Well sports fans, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope everyone has enjoyed some time off, some time with family (ok ... that's probably a 50/50) and A LOT of good food over the last few days. The Brickie sports schedule wasn't quite as full as our bellies this past week, but our boys cagers did finally hit the court for some Hoosier Hysteria!

A Fox Sports TRADITION is to share turkey legs with the winners on THANKSGIVING ... so once again, let's do the same here in BricksCenter by serving them up for special/unique accomplishments by our student-athletes!

(John Madden voice) BOOM - you see right here ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Basketball

Girls

The Lady Brickies were scheduled for a Saturday afternoon contest against Calumet; however, half of the Warriors were listed as "inactive" due to injuries & illness, so the game was postponed.

With no contests other than how much food could be consumed on Thursday, the Lady Brickies remained 6-0 on the season! Two BIG ones dot the landscape this upcoming week with home games on Tuesday (Portage) & Thursday (#4-ranked Munster). GOOD LUCK LADIES!!

Boys

The Brickie boys cagers had two BIG ones this past week ... opening the 2022-2023 season (and Coach Aaron Butcher era) on the road against Boone Grove & River Forest.

On Wednesday, Hobart traveled to Boone Grove to begin the 2022-2023 regular season! Sophomore forward Aidan Leonard scored the first points of the season on a runner in the lane to start a 14-0 run to open the game! When senior Keith Mullins finished the first 8 minutes with a buzzer-beating tip-in, the Brickies held a commanding 22-3 advantage!! That's right folks ... it was 22-3 at the end of the first quarter! I think it's safe to say that the Brickies started the game just like Coach Butcher drew it up in the locker room. :)

Sophomore guard Jayme Hairston buried a 3 to open the 2nd period ... classmate Kael Schlosser did the same to start the 3rd as Hobart CRUISED the rest of the way for an easy 69-36 VICTORY!! Mullins led a trifecta of Brickies in double figures with a game-high 17 points to go along with his 12 rebounds! Leonard added 15 points and 8 rebounds and senior Gabe Dickerson chipped in 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in the win.

Saturday night, the Brickies visited neighborhood rival River Forest in Bill Logan Gymnasium. In a very competitive first quarter of action, the host Ingots held a slim 2-point lead at 9-7. Hobart responded with a DOMINANT 18-6 run over the next 8 minutes to take a 25-15 lead into the halftime break! The second half went back-and-forth, but every time River Forest threatened ... our boys had an answer and the Brickies sealed the deal by going 10-for-14 at the foul line to earn a hard fought 51-43 VICTORY!! Mullins was again the "straw that stirs the drink" on offense with a game-high 25 points and 9 rebounds! Sophomore Felix Lopez backed him up with 11 points (6-for-6 from the charity stripe) and 4 rebounds ... Leonard and junior guard Anthony Hnilo each contributed 3 assists in the win.

Hobart is now 2-0 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday @ South Central! DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!

DistrictWON & The United States Marines

On Monday afternoon, the United States Marines sent 3 representatives to talk Leadership & Teamwork with our winter student athletes! This program was set up through a partnership between DistrictWON, the US Marines and Hobart Athletics. With 100+ student athletes in attendance, Marine reps focused on two primary elements in their presentation:

  • Educate athletes on how to focus on team goals ... set a focus on a team-first mindset
  • Address athletes about how to be a better teammate and leader

After the presentation, our Brickies even had a chance for some Q&A with the speakers.

Being a Brickie is something we take great pride in.
