High School Weekly Update

From Co-Principals Ruby Bode & Chuck Scott

April 16, 2021

Dear EPHS Family,

We hope you are staying warm this week as we welcome winter again this April. We are grateful for the moisture, but we are also looking forward to the sunny days ahead!

This week we have a lot to communicate about some important changes to events as we wrap up the last 6 weeks of school and prepare for graduation, prom, and homecoming. Communication is one of our treasured Global Outcomes that we value in our EPSD community, and we feel we have certainly been challenged in this area this year. We want to thank you all for being patient and showing us grace as we try to communicate the frequent changes throughout this challenging school year. This is an area in which we ourselves are always striving to improve.

Sincerely,

Ruby Bode & Chuck Scott

Prom is Postponed

This week, administration and the prom committee decided to postpone prom until the end of the year. We feel we can do a better job of mitigating the spread of Covid-19 in our school if we postpone the event until the end of the school year. Prom has been postponed to the evening of Friday, May 28. Juniors and Seniors attending prom will be able to bring a guest of their choice to the event. We will have the capacity to provide a covid-19 test for every student before attending prom so we can prevent anyone with a positive case from attending.

Update on Graduation Information

Our EPHS Graduation Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 28 at 10:00am in Bobcat Stadium.

The ceremony will not be open to the public. Only relatives of the graduates will be in attendance. This includes relatives outside of the household to include grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. We will provide more information as our plans develop and are approved. Since it will not be open to the public, we will be live-streaming it for everyone in our community to watch who is unable to attend.

Homecoming Week is Next Week!

We will maintain some of our traditional events for homecoming this year. Thank you to the Student Council for organizing these events!

Homecoming Themed Days:

Monday - 4/19 - Sports Day

Tuesday - 4/20 - Twin Day

Wednesday - 4/21 - Country vs. Country Club

Thursday - 4/22 - Beach Day

Friday - 4/23 - Spirit Day

Friday, March 23, we will have our traditional bonfire at Stanley Park at 8:00pm. Anyone in attendance must wear masks and practice physical distancing.

Our Homecoming Football game will take place on Saturday, April 24, at 12:00PM at Bobcat Stadium versus Buena Vista. All spectators in attendance must wear a mask and practice physical distancing. Best Wishes to our Football Team!

Reminder about Mask Wearing

We want to remind all parents, students, and staff members of the continued expectation to wear your mask properly when at school. This means that the mask must cover your nose and mouth at school at all times, except when eating and drinking.

Academic Letter Award Ceremony

Every fall, we hold an academic award assembly to honor all our students receiving academic letters. This year, we postponed our award ceremony to this spring in hopes to provide academic awards in person. In order to receive an Academic Letter, a student must hold a 3.75 GPA or higher both 1st and 2nd semester during the school year. We will be honoring these students with an in-person assembly in the auditorium on Thursday, April 22, at 12:30pm. We are so proud of our Bobcats achieving academic excellence!

Only students receiving awards will be in attendance for the ceremony, but we will live-stream the event on our Estes Park High School Facebook page for spectators to watch the students receive their awards. A list of students receiving academic letters for the 2019-20 school year are pictured below.

Summer jobs, Internships, and Apprenticeships!

Estes Park High School, the Estes Chamber, the Estes EDC, and Larimer County Workforce, are partnering to host a virtual hiring event to support the Estes Valley in some seasonal talent acquisition. If your student is looking for a summer job, internship, or apprenticeship, this is right up their alley!

Starting on Monday, April 19th, students can browse open positions with local employers through our virtual hiring platform. The following week beginning Monday, April 26th, we'll be hosting Employer Spotlight events to make local opportunities available directly to our High School students. Students will hear from business partners like the Town of Estes Park, Bird & Jim, and Estes Valley Recreation and Parks (to name a few) about the roles they're hiring, pay, benefits, and workplace culture. Keep an eye out for our platform launch link and Employer Spotlight event schedule coming soon!
