LVHS News...Addendum!

When we just can't wait two weeks to share!

September 20, 2014

We had our first drawing!

Remember, students earn tickets for great behavior and outstanding deeds (and sometimes just for being consistently good kids). Today we had our first drawing!

Serenity Area and Memorial for Mark Abbott

As many of you know, LVISD Board member Mark Abbott passed away last spring after his battle with ALS. As a tribute to Mark, a group of LVISD students and their teachers worked hard this past Monday to dig up dirt, lay stones, and plant two new trees near our student entrance. Thanks to Sun Hardware, Mrs. Wancho, Coach Walker, Mrs. Hendrix, Ms. Stachowski and many hard-working students for their effort in making the memorial come together. It is a beautiful addition to our school and a meaningful tribute to a great LVISD supporter!

Curriculum Night is Wednesday, September 24!

Please join us!

6:00 - 6:30 – Ice cream social in the LVHS cafeteria!

6:30 – 6:45 – Message from Mrs. Stoner and Randy Mathisen (Instructional Technology Director) in the MAC!

6:45 – 7:30 – Classroom visits - get a glimpse of what great things have been happening in your student's class, meet your student's teacher, set up conferences.

Students in attendance will receive a coveted red ticket! We hope to see you all there!

Want to Sub in LVISD?

Our highly recommended LVISD substitute training is this Monday, September 22, from 5:00 - 7:30 pm, in the LVHS Performing Arts Center. Potential and current substitute teachers will be provided with information on district procedures before being released to campus-specific sessions. No need to RSVP, just join us at 5:00 pm in the PAC!

Important News From Mrs. Slaughter ~~

College Connection!

College Connection is Austin Community College's way of eliminating barriers to college entrance.

College Connection provides one-on-one assistance with:

· College applications

· Free placement testing

· Financial aid applications

· College Advising

ACC Representatives will be in all English IV classes next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 23 and 24, to guide them through the college application process. Our goal is for every LVHS graduate to be college ready! If your student plans to attend ACC at any time, this will be the first step! Representatives will also be here during our Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 24, to answer any questions parents and/or students may have about college applications or financial aid. Hope to see you there!

Juniors, it is time to talk about your senior ring!

A Herff Jones representative will be here on Tuesday, September 23, during TEAM time, to talk with you about ordering your rings! Please come to the Media and Academic Center (MAC) at 3:00 on Tuesday.

Coming in October ~~

Herff Jones representatives will be here on October 28 to talk to seniors about caps, gowns, etc.

As always, call me if you have questions or concerns! The high school experience is such an exciting time for your students but these days also have the potential to be filled with stress. I am here to help!

There is Never team time on Wednesday A-Days!!! Teachers have staff meetings!

Heads-Up: Early Release Day!

On Wednesday, October 8, all LVHS students will be dismissed at 11:10 am. Lunch will be served until 11:45 am and bus riders will wait in the MAC for pick-up. This early release time allows teachers the opportunity to attend professional development activities in the areas of technology integration and best practices for instructional strategies.

When Can My Student Come and get extra help?

Students are encouraged to get help from their teachers during TEAM time, which is 2:55-3:25 each day. Most teachers are also available before school with prior notice. All students have access to TEAM time. While in-season athletes report to their coaches to ensure they are supervised during this time, they will always be allowed to leave with a pass from a teacher. And the earliest bus does not pick up until 3:30, so even bus riders can take advantage of this time for support!
