Jaguar Update
Sunset Valley Elementary - December 3, 2020
Flood's Flash
DearJAGUAR Families,
Virtual Learning is well underway for all of our SVE Jaguars by now. While this is very challenging for students, teachers and parents alike, if we all support and encourage each other, we can do it! It's important to remember that December is Kindness month and now, more than ever, we also need to give grace and have understanding.
We recognize that our parents continue to support their children in ways they could have never imagined in the past. We see you and we appreciate you! Within the next week or so, we will be providing additional information to help support your efforts at home! We will cover virtual learning schedules, resources, expectations, tips, tricks, and more. We will also hope to help our families have better insights into virtual learning and ways in which you can maintain a sense of calm while navigating this new reality. We want you to stay balanced, healthy and well. Please keep an eye out for this!
In keeping with the theme of virtual learning and wellness, please know that I have requested that our SVE staff set healthy limits for themselves. I've asked them to also keep balance and calm in their lives. Their health and well-being is very important. This will help them be the best they can be for our Jaguars. That being said, I want to ask all parents to please be patient and honor the hours that our teachers are working. Things that may seem like an emergency in the moment, may just be able to wait until the following school day. Emails and messages sent to teachers will be answered, but the response may come the following work day. Anything you can do to help honor a teacher's time is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Mrs. Rachel Flood, Principal
Mrs. Amy Westacott, Assistant Principal
Technology Help Desk Phone Line for Students
816-986-HELP (4257) is now live for students. Students who need tech help can still submit a ticket (https://connect2learn.lsr7.org/support/) or call this number. Phones will be answered by a site or field tech in the district. If a tech is not available, students can leave a message and someone will get back to them.
Holiday Assistance
Dear Sunset Valley Families,
Our Sunset Valley family and community has always been amazing. The holiday season is a time we can continue to work together for our SVE kids! There are many families in need of assistance, especially during the holidays. SVE is working to connect families in need of an extra boost with organizations, groups, and individuals who are ready to help out!
If your family could use some extra assistance this year for the holiday season, please contact me, Jodi Mahurin: SVE Counselor by Friday, December 4th. This program is completely anonymous, and the names of our families receiving assistance will not be shared for any reason.
If you would like to help with monetary donations, make specific gift purchases, “adopt” a family, or know of someone or an organization who would support our efforts, please contact Mrs. Mahurin by Friday, December 4th so we can get our families paired for the holidays!
Sincerely,
Jodi Mahurin, School Counselor

A few notes on protocols and health guidelines for LSR7
* Staff and students wear masks at all times unless we are taking a mask break while socially distanced.
* Students will hand wash and/or sanitize hands each time they leave and enter a new space. Ex: from classroom to art, from PE to recess, from classroom to lunch, etc. . .
* Classroom desks/tables will be sanitized each time students eat breakfast.
* Students will maintain consistent seating charts in classrooms, at lunch, in special class and students will have assigned line orders. These practices will help us should we need to contact trace.
* The schedule has been build with extra time in between recesses and special class so equipment and materials can be cleaned.
