Welcome to Green House 5
with Ms. May Voltz
October 13-16, 2020
Dear Green House FamiLEE!
Election Time is Coming. I can't wait to see and hear who is running for class representative! There will be no long lines to vote here! The campaigning, speeches, town hall meetings, and even the election will all be held virtually! I am so proud of our learners that are willing to take a risk and be so brave.
I am looking forward to seeing you when you come to pick up your bags on Tuesday! We will be outside in the back bus loop from 8:30 - 9:30 am and again from 12:30 - 1:30 pm. I wonder what you'll find in your bag.
I wish you all a wonderful long weekend. On Tuesday we begin our second nine weeks. Reports cards are going home electronically on Friday, October 16th. Our new nine weeks will also begin a revised schedule for our learners. An email will be sent to you by Monday. Morning meeting, recess, lunch, and specials will remain at the same time. We are modifying our schedule to better meet the needs of our learners and have reading, language arts, and math daily. No more A-B schedule.
We are also very excited about our learners receiving new iPads and pencils. They are already doing amazing things. What will you do first? Let's get good at taking visual notes. Elementary campuses will swap iPads October 13-15. Technology will start with in-person 5th graders on October 13th and 14th. Drive-thru appointments for remote learners will start on October 14 and will take place at the CISD Service Center.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Stay safe, stay healthy!
Virtual Hugs,
Ms. Voltz

GLOBAL READ ALOUD
Prairie Lotus is a powerful, touching, multilayered book about a girl determined to fit in and realize her dreams: getting an education, becoming a dressmaker in her father’s shop, and making at least one friend. Acclaimed, award-winning author Linda Sue Park has placed a young half-Asian girl, Hanna, in a small town in America’s heartland, in 1880. Hanna’s adjustment to her new surroundings, which primarily means negotiating the townspeople’s almost unanimous prejudice against Asians, is at the heart of the story. Narrated by Hanna, the novel has poignant moments yet sparkles with humor, introducing a captivating heroine whose wry, observant voice will resonate with readers.
Here is more information about joining the author on a Skype Call, October 30 at noon.
