History of St. Patrick's Day
- St. Patrick's Day is a celebration that is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, who died in 461 AD. He was the patron saint of Ireland.
- This date was officially made a Christian day of feast in the 17th century.
- The celebration commemorates Saint Patrick, and celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as Irish culture in general. Many people, especially in Ireland, honor this holiday to celebrate the culture of the Irish and engage in festivities.
- St. Patrick's Day spans the globe, because it is also very popular in the United States, as well as other countries.

- Queen Elizabeth used to have bowls of shamrock flown from Ireland to Great Britain to a regiment of the British Army, the Irish Guards.
- This regiment mostly consists of soldiers from Ireland.
- To this day, these guards continue to wear shamrock on St. Patrick's Day.
- There are also many parades, parties, and festivities that take place to celebrate the holiday.
- Due to Irish immigration during the 19th century, there has been a rising population of Irish people in Great Britain, which has spurred the creation of many Irish-themed pubs, and also leads to larger celebrations of St. Patrick's Day. This all benefits their economy, as they are financing off of the tourism and celebrations people engage in.

- There is a St. Patrick's Day Festival, which spanned 5 days and had over 1 million visitors in 2009.
- Since the 20th century, Ireland has shifted their focus to celebrating Irish culture, and they aim to do that as much as they can on this holiday.
- There are parades and parties that take place across the country as well.
- The government is very involved in St. Patrick's Day in Ireland; they have been very focused on aiding the popularity of the holiday in their country. Tourism increases greatly during the festivities, which leads to more money being spent. Overall, this holiday has been very beneficial to Ireland's economy.

Admission is free, however food, drinks, and other items cost money to purchase. This is efficient, because free admission will attract many people, who will most likely spend money during the festivities.

This festival allows for many other companies, such as Irish pubs, to make a profit through people buying their drinks. A large profit is also made through souvenirs, etc.
