Parents Share Reopening Observations

Dawes Elementary parent, Maria Vasquez, shared with the Chicago community why she opted her students in for in-person learning. She shared that the decision was not an easy one to make, but that seeing the health-screening process and observing staff and students following protocols and wearing masks 'solidified' her decision to choose in-person learning.

Dawes students in grades Pre-k to 4th had an extra special school pick up this December. Mr. and Mrs. Rourke, through their collaboration with non-profit and anonymous donors, helped our school receive extra special Santa gifts. As a result, every student in preschool through fourth grade received a gift ranging from stuffed animals, legos, Play-doh and fidget spinners to pajamas, coats and more! The donors also gave our school nine brand new bicycles for our early childhood students that we will be raffling off this semester. Additionally, anonymous donors provided funds to purchase brand new coats for some of our students in need. Our school is so grateful for the donations and special connection with such amazing people and organizations!


Common Threads Cooking Demo Common Threads, a Dawes Community Partner (through Metropolitan) shared with families two simple recipes for breakfast. Families joined a chef on Zoom and created homemade granola bars and a healthy yogurt parfait. View the granola bar recipe here.	Mobil Gas Station Donation A big THANK YOU to the Mobile at 82nd & Pulaski for the generous donation to Dawes School. Dawes Elementary is grateful to have such supportive businesses right around the corner! Dawes will put the funds toward graduation fees for our 8th grade class.	New Projects! Several Dawes teachers and staff have had their Donors Choose projects funded recently. Ms. Rowe was able to fund a project to ensure her students had access to school supplies whether in school or learning at home. Ms. Clancy created a project and recieved a new laptop for her class!
