Mrs. Poliszczuk's First Grade Class
weekly update
March 24, 2016
This week in science, students learned that there are many tools scientists use to measure and record weather. The Beaufort Scale records the visible effects of the wind and anemometers measure wind speed. Students also used the Engineering Design Process of Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create and Improve to design, test and improve sails that were created to help a car move when blown by wind.
In math, students continued practicing adding and subtracting numbers and solving addition and subtraction story problems.
We reviewed previously learned skills in phonics and reading and will begin new units when we return from Spring break.
Have a wonderful spring break! Thank you for all you do!
Spring Fun!
Other Information
Spring Party
The students had so much fun on Tuesday celebrating spring! Students created a handprint flower craft with Mrs. Lee and listened to a spring story read my Mrs. Clemmer. Students were able to go out and get some fresh air while hunting for eggs labeled with each letter in the word spring. They also enjoyed a few treats. Thank you to everyone for your help and donations!
BSO
What an enjoyable, educational music performance by the BSO of the fairytale "Peter and the Wolf". Ask your child which character was their favorite and what musical instrument imitated that animal's sound.
Green School Project
Students learned about "the Three R's" with Mrs. Miller. They learned one way we can recycle material is by reusing them to produce new products. Students had fun using a variety of materials to decorate their recycled milk jug bird feeder.
Scholastic Book Orders
I sent home the Scholastic book order for April; however, I forgot to pass out the coupons for a free book (up to $5.00) with a $10.00 or more order. If you will be ordering , please send me an email and I will give you one of the codes.
