The Second Step Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum K-8
Now more than ever, we need to address the whole child. Best practice shows that students who feel safe and secure are better prepared to engage in their learning.
Therefore, we are excited to continue to use Second Step in our K-8 classes beginning this week to further strengthen our commitment to social and emotional learning. (For more information about the benefits of SEL, please check out the quick video below.)
Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with various social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons will build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Please view the flyers below to learn more about the program topics, and look for additional updates from classroom teachers and ALL district newsletters.
TWAIN DATA VERIFICATION FORMS DUE TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
All students were sent home with a Data Verification Card last week. If you have not done so, please fill this form out and return it ASAP so we have this important information to update our contacts in our system. The form is bright GREEN. All forms should be submitted by Tuesday, September 6th.
Please reach out to our Main Office at 439-6900 with questions.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
IPAD UPDATE...
iPad distribution will begin on Monday, September 12th. If you have any unpaid fines, please pay them as soon as possible. Please talk with your child about where their "home base" will be to charge the iPad each night. iPads should come to school fully charged each day.
Does your child need a backpack?
Lunch Aides Needed!
Lunch aides are needed every M-F. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Tonn at (586)439-6900 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
Parking Lot Reminders
- The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
- The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
- Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
DOES YOU CHILD HAVE MEDICAL NEEDS?
If your child has specific medical needs, please reach out to the main office prior to the start of school. In order to administer medication, consent forms must be completed. Consent forms for prescription medications must include dosage and frequency information signed by a physician. Medication, including inhalers, must be stored in the main office and not in backpacks or pockets. In addition, if your child has a medical plan, it will need to be updated for the 22-23 school year.
Please find medication forms linked below for your convenience.
FIND YOUR CHILD’S BUS STOP ONLINE
Bus stop information will be available online for the 2022–2023 school year starting August 29. You can access your child’s bus stop information by visiting www.fraser.k12.mi.us. Click on the "Bus Stops" link and enter your address to retrieve your child’s bus stop information.
It is very important to check your child’s bus stop, as routes have been modified for the 2022–2023 school year.
Students will be assigned a route number in lieu of a bus number. The route number is located on the left side of the entry door. To ensure transportation, all students must be at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time.
Please review with your child the bus rules found on the Transportation Department’s website.
A GREAT RESOURCE IN OUR OWN BACKYARD
CARE is a resource in our community that helps families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties with mental health or substance abuse. CARE's Student Assistance program offers families the opportunity to receive a thorough assessment for children who are experiencing mental health issues. CARE will then provide resources to assist with concerns. CARE also is a great place to attend parenting classes for Early Childhood through Teen. Speciality classes related to anger management and play and learn groups for younger children are also programs provided through CARE. For more information or for a referral to CARE's Student Assistance program please contact our social worker, Mrs. Gonsler, or contact CARE at 586-541-CARE.

Free & Reduced Meals
When the 2021-2022 school year ended, so did free meals for every student. While the federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has declined to continue funding this program.
- Parents should submit a free & reduced application to determine if they qualify for free or reduced priced meals.
- There is a carry over period (30 school days from the first day of school) where students can use their status from the previous school year. This ONLY applies to actual benefits, meaning not all students are free for 30 days to start the year because everyone was free last year.
- Meal prices will remain the same as they were pre-Covid (last time students had to pay).
- Elementary Breakfast $1.35
- Reduced Breakfast $0.30
- Elementary Lunch $2.35
- Reduced Lunch $0.40
- We will be using a monthly Meal Order Form. Parents must complete the Meal Order Form each month in order to receive breakfast or lunch. These should be submitted to the Meal Coordinators prior to the start of the next month.
- Fresh fruit & vegetable bars are back!
- All prepayments should be made ONLINE using the new Family Portal.
Please complete the 2022-2023 online application to find out if your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals.
