It’s been another busy few weeks here…
Royal Navy Engineering Challenge
On Wednesday, 3 year 11 students took part in the Royal Navy Engineering challenge national finals. Having previously won the regional finals.
The challenge was to build a remote-controlled boat that could maintain a position over targets and lift them from the floor of a pool.
Jake, Cali and Billy had an early start to travel to UTC Leeds where the competition took place. Their boat floated well, did not capsize, which 2 of the other entries did. However, a catastrophic power fail meant they did not win the event.
All students received the Industrial cadets Gold award for their achievements. A fantastic day and well done all three.
Earlier in the month we held our Careers event in school. Students were off timetable and attended a series of workshops that were hosted by not only staff but also but some of our external business partners. Some of these sessions included:
- Careers escape room - UTC Swindon
- Business and Enterprise – RAU
- Code Breaking activity - University of Reading
- Preparing for future careers - University of South Wales
- Careers and Progression – NCS
- Getting through your GCSEs - Study Higher (David)/University of Reading
- Money matters - The Young people charity
- Interview workshop - Virgin Money
- Big Questions, Little Questions - Study Higher (David)
- Choosing what and where to study - Swansea University
The day concluded with a careers fair with representatives from the following: Army, University of South Wales, Oxford Brookes, McDonalds, Navy, NHS, UKRI, AECOM, Wilmott Dixon, Winchester University, BMW, Study Higher, Swansea University, RAU, University of Reading.
Our thanks go to all of those involved in an incredibly valuable day for all of our UTC Swindon students.

Let’s Be Practical

Year 11’s will have a similar day tomorrow which will no doubt help towards their knowledge for their exams.

Maths interventions - Year 11
Based on PPE results, the maths department have developed some intervention sessions to support our year 11 students. The sessions will focus on exam techniques, how to approach exam questions to minimise misconceptions, and further enhance students' problem-solving thinking.
The maths interventions will start next week after school hours from 15:40 - 16:10. If you would like your student to have this opportunity, please follow the link to give your parental consent: Maths Intervention Consent form.
The Student Leadership Board is providing a variety of enrichment activities to those in the school community so that students can socially engage in non-curricular activities and have some fun. The timetable for the clubs is as follows:
Each club has a designated leader and room. Equipment is not provided for some of the clubs, such as music and DnD, so participants need to make sure they bring their own items when needed.
Please ask your student to contact any of the Student Board Leaders or Dani for more information
