On November 22, 2022 the CHPS BOE appointed Michelle Pettway as a new CHPS Board member after interviewing all applicants for the board vacancy position. Ms. Pettway will be sworn in with other newly elected members on January 3, 2023. She was appointed to fill a Board vacancy when School Board Chair Naty Severson resigned in October. This appointment will fill the seat until, in accordance with state law, the CHPS holds a special election for the vacant seat which will take place on November 7, 2023.

The CHHS New York Study Seminar is an opportunity for students to learn from professional artists, musicians and performers in New York City. Students go on college visits and get the chance to perform in the Big Apple! Please consider supporting our students by attending these fundraisers at local businesses listed below!

CHHS SENIORS!

Financial Aid night is happening Wednesday November 30th from 5:30-8:30 in the media center. Bring your Chromebooks, chargers, and families to apply for the FAFSA.

FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, should be completed by every student going to college next year.

At the Financial Aid students and families will get support to complete this vital form in the college application process.

Dinner will be provided as well. Please come with your devices and families on November 30th.

CHPS is hosting two vaccine clinics at the end of November at the Family Center on November 28, 2022 from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and at Valley View Elementary on November 30, 2022 from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

CHPS is partnering with Neighborhood Health Source who is providing the vaccinations for CHPS students, staff, parents and community members. This is an excellent opportunity for children to get caught up on their required childhood vaccinations.

Vaccines available include:

• COVID-19 Vaccines (FREE)
• Flu Shot (Free with insurance. $10 without insurance)
• Hepatitis B (FREE)
• DTap (FREE)
• Tdap (FREE)
• Polio Vaccine (FREE)
• IPV (FREE)
• Meningococcal (FREE)

There is no registration necessary for COVID-19 Vaccine or Flu Shot, but all other vaccines/shots require registration with the following links.

It is that time of year again to nominate a Columbia Heights Public Schools staff member for Employee of the Year. Submit a Nomination here or by clicking the image above. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, December 16, 2022.

The Columbia Heights Employee of the Year is an annual recognition based on the following criteria of nominees.

• Demonstrates a strong work ethic
• Serves as a positive role model for students and staff
• Extends oneself beyond the basics by displaying initiative and creativity
• Contributes significantly to improving the work site or school district
• Demonstrates courage or exemplary performance in an emergency situation or under unusual difficulties
• Demonstrates Hylander Pride by displaying constant care for students and the community

Eligibility Requirements for Nominators

• Anyone may nominate an employee for Employee of the Year (employee, parent, student, community member, etc.)
• Self-nominations are not accepted
• Unlimited nominations per nominator are accepted

Eligibility Requirements for Nominees

• Current employee of CHPS when the nomination is submitted and Employee of the Year announcement is made
• Has worked at least three full years in the district (no FTE requirement)
• Has not been named Employee of the Year before by CHPS

• CA Boys Basketball – registration will close on January 4th

CHHS Students now get into all Regular-Season Home Events for FREE with their student ID!!

After-School Activity Bus: We have 2 After-School Activity Buses every afternoon, they leave CA @ 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and CHHS @ 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Sports Physical for all Athletics
Every athlete participating in school-year sports must have a physical on file with the Activities Office. Student-Athletes cannot register for the upcoming season without a sports physical on file. Sports physicals are valid for three years. 22-23 Sports Physical Form
