Welcome back, Bidwell Families!

On behalf of our team here at Bidwell, I’d like to welcome you to what will be an exciting 2017-18 school year. We have been working all summer to develop a junior high school experience that is engaging, relevant, and FUN for your students. In the spirit of our three school rules—Be Safe. Be Responsible. Be Respectful.—please help us get off to a positive start by considering these three requests:

Be Safe: Morning drop-off can be hectic. Traffic is extremely heavy, especially during the first few weeks of school. As a Bidwell parent myself, I always planned on dropping my kiddo off no later than 7:50 in order to not feel stressed out in traffic. Please consider your morning schedule and plan accordingly. Let’s work together to keep our students safe during morning drop-off.

Be Responsible: Please read all communication from our school regarding rules and procedures. We don’t want anyone “surprised” by a rule or procedure, so please review this important information with your students. Please keep in mind that these rules have been developed over time to help ensure the safest school experience possible for junior high students. It is critical for students to see that their parents and school staff are on the same page with respect to these expectations.

Be Respectful: If a situation at Bidwell is frustrating for you and/or your students, please assume positive intent on our part and proactively communicate with school staff. In most cases, contacting the teacher directly will give you the most timely and satisfying response. All teachers check their emails on a daily basis and should reply within 24 hours. You are always welcome to communicate with me directly at or on my cell at (530) 521-9228 for urgent matters. In my experience, timely, proactive, respectful communication can resolve 99% of issues before they become a huge stressor.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can during the first days of school, as well as at Back to School Night on September 7 at 6:00 PM in the Bidwell Gym!

Bidwell is just as busy as most schools first thing in the morning. The closer you get to school beginning, the busier North Avenue (and the surrounding streets) gets. Please make sure to plan for traffic on the first day of school, as all students are expected to be in the gym for orientation at 8:05am.

Does your student have a doctor's appointment? They MUST pick up an off campus permit from the attendance office before leaving! To do this, please do one of the following:

  • Preferred method: Send your student to the attendance office with a note including their name, the reason for leaving, the time they need to leave class, and your name.
  • Call the attendance office at 891-3080 x146.

PLEASE remember to leave enough time prior to the appointment for the office to reach your student. They could be in a class, like PE, which may delay them being ready to leave school.

Thursday, Sep. 7th, 6pm

2376 North Avenue

Chico, CA

Come join your student's teachers and staff for an informative evening! You will meet your student's teachers and learn what their classes will entail. This educative event begins in the Bidwell Gym at 6pm!

Bidwell's BLAST room opens its doors each day at 6:30am. Students are allowed on campus beginning at that time. Please make sure students check in to room 402 if they are on campus before 7:00am.

Life happens! If your student is going to be absent for any reason, please do one of the following:

  • Call the attendance office at 891-3080 x146
  • Send a note with your student when they return to school
  • Stop by the attendance desk in the main office

Please include your student's name, the date(s) of absence, the reason, and your name. Any illness absence of three or more days will require a doctor's note upon return.

Students are required to keep all cell phones out of sight and turned off at all times from the first bell until the final bell. The first offense will result in next-day detention and the second will result in Saturday School. All confiscated cell phones require a parent to retrieve them from the office. If you need to reach your student during the day, please call the main office at 891-3080 and a message can be brought to them. There is a landline phone in the main office for student use throughout the day.

Please remind your students to check up front in the office If they have forgotten an item such as swimsuits, towels, lunch, PE clothes, or homework. While you may drop them off for your student, we cannot run passes for them, as we have too many things being dropped off and cannot continue to interrupt classes. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Don't forget to sign up for the Aeries Parent Portal! You will find the instructions on how to do so in the mailer you receive during the first week of August. We ask that you do this as soon as possible! With a parent account, you can monitor your student's grades in real time as well as contact their teachers through email. This also provides a way for teachers and office personnel to contact you about specific school concerns. You will need your students ID number and a verification code to sign up, which are provided with the instructions.
