The Coolidge Scholarship (JUNIORS ONLY!) MERIT BASED FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
MERIT BASED FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY -
Due February 23, 2023
From their website https://coolidgescholars.org/
The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited American college or university. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.
Primary Criterion: Academic Excellence
Above all, Coolidge scholars must possess a distinguished academic record. Competitive candidates will have pursued and succeeded in the most rigorous course of study available to them. Awardees will demonstrate an uncommon academic depth and intellectual curiosity. In the case of the Coolidge Scholarship, depth matters as much as breadth. Coolidge winners’ interest in scholarly and intellectual pursuits goes beyond the classroom.
Secondary Criterion: Interest in Public Policy and Appreciation for Coolidge Values
Candidates also should demonstrate an awareness of and appreciation for the values President Coolidge championed throughout his life. Some such values include: civility, respect for enterprise, government thrift, federalism, and respect for constitutional government. The award is not restricted to candidates planning to pursue degrees in fields such as public policy or government. To the contrary, all academic disciplines are valued by this award.
Secondary Criterion: Humility and Service
Humility is a hallmark quality of leaders in the Coolidge tradition. In his autobiography, Coolidge wrote: “It is a great advantage to a President, and a major source of safety to the country, for him to know that he is not a great man.” The Coolidge Scholarship seeks young people who display a sense of service and care for the well-being of others.

Can I Really Afford It? Income and Financial Aid Eligibility: From University of Notre Dame
"My income is too low. I can't afford tuition." "My income is too high. I won't receive financial aid." These are two statements we hear often from students and families. But the truth is that you may be surprised by the amount of financial aid you may qualify for.
Two ways to estimate the amount of financial aid you may receive include:
Net Price Calculator or MyinTuition. We encourage you to try out each calculator to get an estimate of possible financial aid.
You should also know that, because Notre Dame reviews each financial aid application on an individual basis, we are able to consider many factors in determining the amount of need-based aid you receive. There is no specific income that automatically eliminates a family from receiving need-based aid.
Other major factors aside from income include, but are not limited to:
Size of your family
Number of children currently enrolled in college as undergraduates
Amount of private grade and high school tuition being paid
Family assets
This chart shows need-based scholarships awarded to first-year students by parent income in fall 2022.
Find your family's income range to get a sense of how your income may be considered on your financial aid applications. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and the best way to find out how much aid you qualify for is to apply for financial aid.
6 Tips to Help Prepare You for College-Level STEM Courses
From Cornell College
Do your college and career dreams include one or more of the fields of science, technology, engineering, computer science, or mathematics? These areas of study are frequently labeled STEM fields. We’ve compiled our top six tips for how you can better be prepared to succeed in STEM courses in college before you even visit the college campus you’ll ultimately apply to attend with the help of Cornell College’s Associate Director of Dimensions Program for Health Professions Mark Kendall.
1. Complete high-level math courses in high school:
Go all in and take on Algebra 2, Pre-Calc, and/or Calculus.(For Sequoia, go beyond Geometry)
2. Complete high-level science courses in high school:
Sign up for courses that include time spent in the lab like Biology, Physics, and/or Chemistry.
3. Join STEM-related student organizations or clubs:
Find like-minded friends in Robotics Club, Computer Science Club, Earth Science Club, Math Bowl, or 4-H.
4. Develop strong note-taking skills in high school.
Find a way to prioritize taking notes even while listening, says Kendall. Experiment with effective note-taking strategies and refine them to suit your own style of learning. Does using different colors help you separate key ideas? What about rewriting your notes the night after class to reinforce the key points in your mind?
5. Develop a strong work ethic ...
... and find ways to put in the extra time when you need to do so for a class, while also improving your time management skills so you schedule in breaks, determining how long is just the right amount of time for a break before getting back to your studies, says Kendall.
6. “Find ways to make the topics you’re learning interesting to you. I always enjoy working with a student who's taking a class either for the fun of it, or who is coming from the perspective of wanting to learn everything and connect it to their primary interests. Be genuinely curious about figuring something out for the sake of learning something new and that attitude toward your classes will take you far.” —Associate Director of Dimensions Program for Health Professions Mark Kendall
