CIS "Mathletes" Compete
Thirty-two Clinton Intermediate School students recently participated in their school's first-ever "Math Challenge Tournament".
Students volunteered to participate in this hour-long competition, as they competed against students from across the nation. Students participated in both mental math problems without scratch paper, and problem solving questions in which they were allowed to use paper to compute their answers. Prior to the competition, students were given practice tests to work on at home with their families.
All answer sheets have been sent for scoring. The top 10% in each grade level will be announced at the end of January. If a student is in the top 10% they will be invited to the Masters Round this spring.
**CIS Families**
To help your child with their math skills, CIS has a "Math Challenge" bulletin board that contains two weekly challenges. You can find CIS' weekly challenges (and answers to the previous challenges) at the following link: https://www.mathinaction.org/schools.html.

Recognizing Academic Achievement at CHS
Another plaque has been added to Clinton High School's Academic Wall of Fame.
This new plaque recognizes all students who have scored a 3 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Advanced Placement classes were added two years ago, and help students prepare for post-secondary level coursework with the opportunity to also receive college credit.
CHS currently offers five AP classes, with plans to to add more in the coming years.
A Sweet Success
90 dozen donuts, 350 "dudes", 500 students and some amazing volunteers....Henry Elementary and CECC's Donuts with Dudes events were a ton of fun!
Thank you to Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare who donated all of the sugary goodness to help make this event another SWEET success!

CMS Students Participate in Bright Futures Sponsored Event
In December, students at Clinton Middle School enjoyed staying after school to participate in their school's Bright Futures "Wintergizer".
Students worked with their peers and school staff to decorate gingerbread houses.

Get to Know....Kathy Loyd
This CMS teacher has been teaching for almost three decades....all as a Clinton Cardinal.
Kathy Loyd was born in Clinton and lived in Pleasant Hill until she was hired as a 6th grade ELA teacher at CMS in 1992. Kathy has taught Language Arts, Math, and her favorite class, Discovery (the reason she has such a huge collection of pigs in her classroom). Discovery was a project-driven class, students built bridges, windmills, sarcophagus, clay animals, wrote autobiographies, and more. A fellow teacher once told Kathy that her classroom always looked like a pig-pen, thus the reason for her large collection of pigs!
Kathy has been married to her husband, Tim, for 24 years. Together they have three sons; Jacob, Phillip and Isaac. Jacob is happy to change your tire or give you an oil change at Loyd's Tire. Phillip is willing to sell you any outdoor gear at Everharts. Their youngest, Isaac, is a junior at CHS and works at Legacy Memorials installing and repairing headstones. Together, they enjoy outdoor family time; camping, hunting, and fishing. If there's any downtime, Kathy can be found reading.
"I enjoy working in the CSD. I have a lot in common with my students. Some of my colleagues have become my best friends in and out of school. The CSD has put out some incredibly intelligent, hard-working and talented men and women throughout my time here. It's an honor to be part of their educational career."
