Farewell 8th Grade
As this 8th grade class leaves Carleton and closes a chapter in their lives I am filled with many of the bittersweet feelings that they are. They were the last class I taught before becoming the assistant principal and will likely be the last students that will ever be able to say "I remember when you taught..." or "I wish you could teach me...again." As they walk out of Carleton's doors for the last time to enter a new chapter in their lives I feel as if I too am closing a chapter in mine. I want to thank them for the time we spent together, the impact many of them have allowed me to have in their lives, and the impact that they have had in mine. I know they have given me many laughs, and a few grey hairs, they have brought me joy with their kindness and accomplishments, and the occasional wrinkle with their decisions, in the end they have helped me shape my future and I sincerely hope that I have helped them even in some small way.
As I reflect on our time together I leave our 8th graders with 3 pieces of advice that I have learned in our time together. First, and before all else TAKE RISKS, the old adage "nothing ventured nothing gained" holds true for many of us in our life. Second, DO NOT STOP LEARNING, the world changes and moves, it is the knowledge that we gain that prepares us to move with us, and the knowledge that we can gain that will allow us to catch up when things pass us by. Finally, NEVER SAY NEVER. One of our 8th graders asked do you remember when you said "You'd never be an administrator." I do, and I meant it when I said it. Some of the best decisions I ever made have come from allowing myself to do something I swore I would never do.
Congratulations 8th graders on all you have accomplished I look forward to hearing about the next chapter in your lives.

Help Our School Earn Cash
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school this coming Fall.
For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. You can also get access to coupons and bonus offers there.
Watch for more information coming this September about our Fall Box Top Classroom Incentive!
We also have remained partners with Coco Bean Creamery and Café at 15 and Dodge Park. Now that the weather has broke for summer, purchase a Colt Sundae and 10% of the proceeds will go back to Carleton.
General Announcements
Update your contact info - As we near the end of the school year, some of you will have a change in your address, cell phone number, or other contact information over the summer months. Please email Joyce Frankowski at jfrankowski@wcskids.net to update any personal information for you or your child.
Incoming 7th Grade Parents - Letters will be mailed home for those students that do not have the required immunizations. Please make sure that your son or daughter receive the required immunizations over the summer time and bring updated immunization records to registration on August 22nd. You can direct any questions to Joyce Frankowski (email address listed above).
Final Farewell
As I close out my first year as principal of Carleton Middle School, I'd like to thank the students, staff, and parents that have welcomed me with open arms. I have received many kind words of encouragement, thanks, praise, along with feedback, that will help me reflect over the summer to continue to make Carleton a great place for students to flourish, learn, and develop as the young people I enjoy working alongside. If you are traveling over the summer break, please be safe (look twice for motorcyclists) and enjoy your time with your family. If you are enjoying a "stay-cation," please enjoy what we hope will be a beautiful Michigan summer.
I am already excited about the 2017-2018 school year and hope to improve upon the many great things that are already happening at Carleton. We will see you soon for returning students and if you are moving on to the high school, good luck! Our fall registration dates for incoming 6th graders are August 21st 8:30-9:45 (last name letters A-K) and 9:45-11am (L-Z). Seventh grade will register on August 22nd from 8:30-9:45am (A-K) and 9:45-11am (L-Z). Lastly, our incoming eighth graders will come to Carleton on August 22nd from 12-1:15pm (A-K) and 1:15-2:30pm (L-Z). More information will come home during early August.
Lastly, one of my favorite quotes that I often would share with my graduating seniors is from Dr. Seuss and it states, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
