Tell Us What You Think - Survey on Masking
NSC is committed to the safety of students and staff. As we have worked to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff, we have relied on the guidance from public health authorities to drive our decisions.
Based on this guidance, NSC developed its Safe Return to School Plan this summer, which was approved by the Board on August 9, 2021. A critical part of this plan was to require all students and staff to be masked in buildings and buses. As St. Louis County has changed its mask mandate to a recommendation, we are looking for feedback from parents and staff on how to proceed, keeping in mind that COVID is still present in the community.
Please answer the short survey that can be found here and provide any additional thoughts at the end. Responses will be included in a recommendation that will be presented to the Board at the April meeting. The survey will be active until Monday, March 28.
PLEASE NOTE: Mitigation practices may be reintroduced and are dependent on community infection rates. We will continue to consult with public health and medical experts on our safety strategies.
School Calendar Changes for May 2022
Due to cancelled PD days and snow days, all students in the district will now have a full day of school on Friday, May 20 and Friday, May 27.
This is a change to the district calendar, making those Fridays full days of schools instead of early release days.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or building principal.
LWV Hosts School Board Candidate Forum
Four candidates running for the two available seats on the Normandy Joint Executive Governing Board participated in a public forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis.
Community members gathered at Barack Obama School, as well as virtually via Zoom. Violet Taylor, Dr. Christopher Petty, Marcieta Reed, and Harlan Hodge took questions submitted by the community. Candidates Catasha Jones-Moran, Joseph Zenon, and Robin Blount did not attend.
A recording of the JEGB Candidate Forum can be found here.
Voters will head to the polls on April 5. To learn more about the candidates running, check out the NSC District Website.
2022 Money Smart Month Kids Essay Contest
Students in grades 6-8 can apply for the 2022 Money Smart Kids Essay Contest, an annual event that takes place during April, Money Smart Month. Students use their creativity, communication skills, and money management knowledge in an essay approximately 500 words or less.
Classroom teachers and youth program staff are encouraged to use this as a classroom activity to help develop money management skills in students.
The top finalist will be selected as the 2022 Money Smart Kid, wins a $2,000 scholarship, and will be featured in “On the Money” magazine. The student with the second-place essay will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, and the student with the third-place essay will be awarded a $500 scholarship.
All essay contest participants will also be asked to identify one organization (i.e., classroom, school or non-profit) to receive a $500 award that can be used to help fund classroom supplies and activities if their essay is selected as one of the top three finalists!
Deadline to apply is April 30. See the document attached below for contest rules.
