Week of 9-24-18
Open House Week
Welcome to the official start of fall! We are already entering our fourth week of school, which means progress reports are two weeks away. We have Open House this week on Thursday, which will make this week seem a bit long. Let's call Friday a Morgan gear day to relax and celebrate Morgan after Open House!
There are allergy scrips and letters in your mailboxes for Open House. If your classroom is NOT designated peanut/tree nut safe, or other allergen safe, then you do not need to send out letters or read the script.
The first PTO meeting is tonight at the Hamlin Pub on 25/VanDyke starting at 6:30 PM. I will be sharing the Color Run updates with the PTO and asking for their help with volunteers. If you have other items to share, please see your PTO representatives: Leann Smith and/or Christine Sandison to share your news or requests.
Have a wonderful week!

Start with Hello Week
You can review and use the ideas as you see meets the needs in your classrooms. The new Staff and Student Shout Out boards are one way to spread the compliments and share good news to help students feel included.
If we like this, then let's plan for further implementation for next year and really get our kids off to a great start of saying Hello to each other each morning and Speaking with Good Purpose!
Early Literacy Materials
PLEASE do not take anything from conference room.....yet!
Math and Literacy Schedules
Example:
Mrs. Teacher, Grade K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Math M-F 10:15 - 11:15 AM

Open House
We will run two rotations, as usual. I will dismiss staff prior to parents so you have a chance to get to your classrooms and be ready to greet parents once they are dismissed from the gym.
Allergies: I will provide you with the UCS script that will need to be read during Open House for any classroom that is designated as peanut/tree nut/daily safe.
Any questions, please let me know.

An After-School Professional Development session is being offered on the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System.
Training will be offered on Wednesday, September 26th from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Duncan Elementary. Teachers should email catherine.einhaus@uticak12.org by Monday, September 24th to register for the session.
Pre-arranging Substitute Teacher(s)
The Human Resources Department continues to work on approaches for securing and providing adequate substitute teacher coverage for the 2018-2019 school year. The practice of pre-arranging with familiar and trusted substitute(s) can be one such effective strategy. Pre-arranging a substitute means the substitute has been contacted and confirmed at the building level. Pre-arranging can only be done when the desired substitute is a known EDUStaff employee and Utica Community Schools eligible. If pre-arranging, please remember the following to ensure the substitute is compensated appropriately and to prevent double coverage from occurring:
If it is for a school business absence, indicate the substitute has been pre-arranged along with identified name on the request form.
If it is for a personal absence, the teacher submits the absence in AESOP and selects ‘No Sub Needed’ with an email or message for Pam Austin at 797.1140 verifying the arrangements.
