The Weekly Hoot
June 26-July 2, 2017
Greetings All -
I hope you all are having a great week! As I typed the date at the top of the Hoot, I was totally shocked that it is almost already July!!! What???? That is so hard to believe!
We have had a busy week here at school. It has been Amberly and Jennifer's last week at school before Jennifer is off for the summer and Amberly is off on her new adventure, so we have been hurrying and doing things that we were going to do all the month of June. Also, PK met as a TEAM for the first time since I have been principal! I think Mrs. Lolley is excited to have a partner in Mrs. Borski, and they are both excited to have Mrs. Thomas to help them out!
The custodial staff is still working very hard on the building. All of the new blue hallway rooms and red hallway rooms are cleaned, waxed, and furniture put back into them. Half of the yellow hallway is done. We had to wait on wax to arrive (it did so today) in order to finish out the rest of the yellow hall. After that, we will begin working on old blue and green hall.
A big part of mine, Corzine's, and Kolby's day today was working on the guided reading library, the textbook room, and the science lab closet upstairs. Here is the plan. Where the guided reading books were last year will now hold all STEMscopes boxes and science material. The math interventionist's room (Brzozowski's old room last year)has a closet in it that will hold math manipulatives and materials that are available for all to use. The old science lab upstairs, which is now Sarah Lee's room, will hold the guided reading library for all to use. And finally, I have ordered shelving to be put into the textbook closet so that we can get some order in there! At the end of the green hallway, there are several tubs of books (many of them almost new). Please use the next two weeks to come up if you have any time at all and get what you want from them to add to your classroom libraries. On Friday, July 14, whatever is left will be taken to Half Price Books. Do NOT add books or store anything in any of the closets mentioned above please. We worked very hard to clean them out (still not finished), and we don't want to have to start over!!! LOL!
Last week our STAAR scores for 3rd-5th grade came in and we did a great job! We are at or above Region 6 average on every test!!! Below, please find a link that will let you see our STAAR scores. As we well know, these scores belong to all of us, so pat yourselves on the back.

Also last week, when we were at the TEPSA conference, after hearing several speakers, we have decided to begin a mentor program on campus. We will discuss this in depth in August during staff development, but here are the basics. Each staff member on campus (and I mean everyone) will have one child that they form a relationship with, check up on at least weekly, and check with that child's teacher(s) to see how they are doing in school. I promise this is not going to be hard. Most of you do it anyway already! :) What I need from each of you right now is to send me a list of children from your class last year (or if you didn't have a homeroom, some that you observed) that would benefit from having a caring adult in their lives. Email those to me by Friday, June 30th please so that I can compile a list. I promise you will be getting more information on this shortly. Right now, all I need is those names.
This week we also posted two instructional assistant positions. I am at a conference in Lake Jackson on Monday and Tuesday, but I will get busy on hiring for those positions as soon as I return.
Lastly, don't forget to send me pictures of your summer adventures! I want to share it with all of you on the Hoot!
Whew! I think that is it for now! Everyone have a great week! Enjoy this great, HOT summertime weather! I am planning on playing in a domino tournament during the Bremond Polish Days Festival and I might go to Bernhart Winery on Sunday evening for the George Strait Tribute Concert. It's going to be a great weekend!
Love to all -
-- Marcy :)
