Our Learning- October 14, 2016

This week, we:


*read several Little House on the Prairie stories

*discussed the beginning, middle, and end of each story

*started reading Charlotte’s Web together

Work work:

*learned about the -in word family

*worked with our spelling words for the week

*continued to practice in our handwriting book


*started a new unit about "how to" writing

*used pictures to sequence events to make a banana split


*started our unit on measurement by comparing ourselves to our classmates

*looked for items that were shorter, longer, or the same size as our hand

*read the book Measuring Penny and created our own dogs

*measured our dogs’ tails, ears, and bodies with colored tiles


*started our new unit on plants

Social Studies

*continued to learn new things about Benjamin Franklin

*used our devices to access Thinglink to write facts about Ben Franklin


The first progress report is coming home today in your child's folder. Please look at it, sign, and return it to school on Monday. Let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress.

Paper pumpkins can be purchased for our classroom door for $.50 a piece. Proceeds go to the United Way. The top three classes win great prizes!

Important Information

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up for our field trip on Wednesday, November 2. If you have not already done so, go to to sign the forms. It is going to be a fun day!


BYOD devices are welcome every day at school. We are using them for independent reading time. Please make sure your student knows how to access downloaded books or log on to the eclass portal. We cannot download any books at school.


For the Eclass homework, go to your eclass page. Login using your student number and the password 234567. Click on the teacher page (with my picture). The Science Elcass homework is available by clicking on the homework button that is under the student desk, or you can click on the student desk. After you click on the student desk, find the homework section, and it will take you to the science homework. All homework and book logs are due back on Thursday each week. Please make sure your child's book log is completely filled out and signed so our class gets credit for the logs. Let's get 100%! Thanks for reinforcing good homework habits.
