Community Morning Meeting--You don't want to miss it!

Each morning LaPerche students begin the day together at a school wide community meeting. The first bell rings at 8:45 and the meeting begins minutes later. At the meeting the 5th grade student council share birthdays, announcements and start the day off with a positive vibe. I also address the students to remind them of upcoming events, review expectations or celebrate a success. When students arrive between 8:45-8:50 they often miss the meeting and can disrupt the 5th graders who are speaking.

If you drive your child to school please arrive by 8:30. This will allow you time to get through the drop off line and allow your child a chance to settle in before the 8:45 bell. Thank you for your help in creating a smooth opening to each school day.

At 8:50 the second bell rings and our instructional day has begun. If you pull up to the drop off location after the 8:50 bell has rung you will be asked to go inside and sign your child in late. If we are still at the Morning Meeting, please send your child to join us before going inside. Thank you.

Volunteer During Recess or Lunch? Come on in!

We are always looking for volunteers to help support lunch and recess times. If you have completed your BCI and have attended volunteer training, we would love to have you join us. Volunteers usually sign on for one duty a week but you are always welcome to sign up for more :)

Supporting during lunch would involve you walking around the room, checking in with each table, answering questions, helping students open various containers, and problem solving typical lunch issues.

Supporting during recess would involve moving around the playground space, redirecting students to our playground expectations, refereeing a game, and problem solving typical playground issues.

Our kindergarten, first and second graders have lunch from 11:45-12:15 and enrichment/recess from 12:15-12:45.

Our third, fourth and fifth graders eat lunch from 12:30-1:00 and have enrichment/recess from 1:00-1:30.

Support as of Today:

Mrs. McGehearty--Monday Recess--12:15-12:45

Mrs. Caisse--Tuesday Recess-12:15-12:45

Many other volunteers indicated they are available for lunch or recess duty. If that is you, thank you! Please email me to let me know which time works best for you. Thank you in advance for your support!

Field Trip Forms--Please return!

As you are aware, LaPerche Elementary is heading to Stadium Theater on Friday, October 23. Please return your child's permission slip and school lunch form ASAP. Every student needs to return a permission slip and a separate lunch form. All classes will eat lunch when we return from the trip. Students can bring a lunch from home or preorder a bagged lunch from school.

While we have received the forms from many students we are still waiting for a few more. Some families forgot to sign the second page of the permission slip and those forms have been sent back too. Forms with "Second Notice" have gone out so check your child's backpack. Thank you!

The trip is $15.00 per student. If the cost is a financial hardship, please feel free to email or call Mrs. Dorsey at or 231-6652. We do not want any family to feel stressed over the cost and we want all of our LaPerche students to attend this fantastic live theater performance.

Thursday, October 22--PINK OUT DAY in Honor of...

You may have heard from your child that our wonderful lunch lady, Ms. Kim, has not been in school this year. Ms. Kim is battling breast cancer and fighting everyday to get strong and healthy. The students have made cards and written letters to Ms. Kim that Mrs. Bazinet is sending in care packages every other day. I encourage every LaPerche adult to write a letter to Ms. Kim and send it in for our care packages.

Lead by our 5th graders, LaPerche Elementary is holding a PINK OUT day on Thursday, October 22 in honor of Ms. Kim. Every person at LaPerche is encouraged to wear as much pink as possible to support Ms. Kim and all people battling breast cancer, breast cancer survivors and those who we have lost to this terrible disease.

The 5th graders will be selling "Making Strides for Breast Cancer" forms for $1.00. Every LaPerche student is encouraged to earn $1.00 by doing chores around the house to use to purchase a form. On the form students can write the name of any person or family member who they are supporting with their donation. The 5th graders will post the cards around the school to show support for this worthy cause.

If you would like to contribute please make all checks out to Making Strides against Breast Cancer or to The American Cancer Society. Thank you in advance for your support! All money collected will be donated to one of the two organizations.

Recently, 5th graders had the pleasure of having a special guest, Dianne Fonseca, visit with them during health class to discuss cancer and how to prevent it. Dianne is a cancer survivor. If your child is in grade 5 please ask your him/her all about the discussion; especially how we can help those who have cancer and what we can do to prevent it from happening.

Making Strides cards will be in sale starting tomorrow!

Email or Call Mrs. Dorsey

As always, please feel free to email ( or call (231-6652) me with any questions, suggestions, comments or words of encouragement!

Enjoy the week--Julie
