Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 8 November 2020
Seeking Wisdom
Resplendent and unfading is wisdom,
and she is readily perceived by those who love her,
and found by those who seek her.
She hastens to make herself known in anticipation of their desire;
Whoever watches for her at dawn shall not be disappointed,
for he shall find her sitting by his gate.
For taking thought of wisdom is the perfection of prudence,
and whoever for her sake keeps vigil
shall quickly be free from care;
because she makes her own rounds, seeking those worthy of her,
and graciously appears to them in the ways,
and meets them with all solicitude.
~Wisdom 6:12-16
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Historic and unprecedented; healing and unification; finding our commonality--these are some of the words we are hearing repeated throughout this weekend. Healing, possibilities, coming together...for a nation divided. These have been trying times, but it is our love for our country, our faith and our care for one another that has given us the strength and the hope to work together, in solidarity.
STUDENT COUNCIL
This past Friday, students in grades 4-8 elected their Student Council. We congratulate all the students who had the courage to run for office. We are so very proud of them and we encourage all to continue in leadership roles. Here is St. Clare School’s 2020-21 Student Council:
- Co-Presidents: Ashley Boudeville, Samantha Rapport
- Vice-President: Gabrielle Gebala
- Secretary: Jane Quiazon
- Treasurer: Aubrey Agustin
- Historian: Claire Lee
- Commissioners of Spirit: Lily Gibson, Allison Hurley
This election, too, was a historic one: done on Zoom using the anonymous polling feature. The race for president was very close (one vote!) and Ashley and Sammi were gracious enough to accept the position as Co-Presidents. We have a talented and dedicated group and I have no doubt that they will accomplish remarkable things for the student body. Congratulations to you all!
THE END OF THE FIRST TRIMESTER
Being the last week of the trimester, it is to be expected that there will be summative assessments to measure mastery of progress towards standards. Support your student by reviewing skills learned this trimester, encouraging them to get lots of sleep, exercise and take brain breaks. Remind them that there are many more opportunities to grow and improve. Help them set goals and practice reflecting on what they have to celebrate and what they need to elevate.
T2 RETURN | Week of November 16
Thank you for completing the survey indicating your choice to return. Note that we will revisit additional options to return in January and again in March. Stay tuned.
Mandatory Training Sessions ***ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T BEEN TRAINED YET: those returning for the first time this year.***
In the meantime, we are preparing for those who have selected to return the week of Nov. 16. You should have received an email with a form to complete to RSVP for the Mandatory Training Sessions this week. Here is the LINK again, in case you didn’t see it in your email inbox: https://forms.gle/yJDYhsEJbJLHshcC9 ***PLEASE COMPLETE ASAP***
There will only be two sessions to choose from (duration: one hour). They are:
Monday, 11/9 at 6 P.M. and Friday, 11/13 at 11 A.M. Please use the St. Clare School All-School Meeting ID: ID 753 421 694
In order for your student to be allowed to return the week of Nov. 16, at least one parent or guardian must attend one of these sessions.
Staggered Return
Those returning in TK-5 will be in stable cohorts. Those returning in grades 6-8 will be returning two days a week. Middle School teachers are in the process of deciding the cohorts, with academic and social balance in mind. Homeroom teachers will communicate this by Thursday of next week.
Possible timeline being considered for returning students:
Monday 11/16 TK & K, Grades 6 & 7 (Cohort A)
Tuesday 11/17 1 & 2, Grade 8 (Cohort A)
Thursday 11/18 Grades 3 & 4, Grades 6 & 7 (Cohort B)
Friday, 11/19 Grade 5, Grade 8 (Cohort B)
More importantly, we ask all families returning the week of Nov. 16 to minimize their interactions with others to keep our existing in-person cohorts safe and stable. Minimize travel to other counties whose COVID case numbers are higher than Santa Clara County’s, refrain from gathering with mixed cohorts, especially indoor, always follow the same protocols wherever you go: wear face coverings, wash hands often, stay 6 ft. physically distanced. Thank you for your part in keeping our community safe.
The next “A CUP WITH THE PRINCIPAL” will be on Thursday, November 12 at 6 P.M.
SILVER BOX PLEDGE TO REMAIN SAFE
Whether your student is in-person or at home, please continue to practice good health and hygiene and continue to make the right choices to protect our community. Your decisions and behaviors impact many. We appreciate keeping to your pledge to keep ALL of us safe!

SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS OF ST. CLARE
Do you appreciate the dedication and care that our teachers give to your students and to their profession? Do you find our community to be welcoming and inclusive? We hope that you answered yes to these questions. We can no longer afford to be “the best kept secret” in Catholic education. Let as many people know about our school. Invite them to view the website, follow us on Instagram and Facebook and have them call the school office to learn more! Show your pride by sharing your St. Clare story.
FOR WE DO NOT KNOW THE HOUR...
This Sunday’s readings remind us of the wisdom to be prepared to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. What is being asked of us in this life to be ready for the next. What has every saint, those who have been canonized and those who live their saintliness in everyday ordinary ways, been asked to do? Consider Micah 6:8
“You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Blessings of peace always,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal

Voluntary COVID Testing for Children; Flu Shots
Thank you to all the families that attended the Return to School orientation last night. Be on the lookout for more information in the coming days about logistics and more.
Thank you to Jane Wulf (8th grade parent) for sharing the information below. St. Clare is not requiring a negative COVID test to return to in-person learning, but families may want to have their children tested before returning.
Families with children of any age are welcome to schedule a free COVID nasal swab test. Results are sent by text/email within 2-3 days (in the past I have received mine within 24 hrs). I recommend scheduling a test for the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds site:

Fulgent Booking System 1.0 - Appointment
This testing is for people who live, work, attend school, or assist with care for a resident of Santa Clara County.

You will be asked to provide optional insurance information to help offset the costs related to providing the test. The insured(s) is NOT billed. Insurance is NOT required to be tested. The fairgrounds location is a drive-thru site open Tuesdays-Fridays (12p-6:45p) and Saturdays (9a-3p).
In addition, flu shots are offered free of charge across the street (Fairground expo building) on Saturdays.
