Shout Outs
Thank you to Kimenya for coordinating our Literacy Day! It was a great morning of teaching and learning. Thank you to Michele, Hope, Iris, Karen, Brittney, Sanya, Delora, and Deborah, Tara, Bonnie, Lisa H., Rose and Connie for opening your classrooms to parents for the observations or being prepared to be an overflow classroom. A special thanks to Dina, Danielle, Lisa T., Trekeelia, Kelli and Bobby for assisting. Our staff really came together and made this a very successful event. Please thank Jill Pappas and Liz Bridges for their support of Lesslie.
SafeSchools Training
A special thank you to everyone for completing your SafeSchools training! Our faculty and staff have completed 100% of the assigned training for the 2016-2017 school year.
Relationships - This video, about the way we speak to children, hits home! Working in a school setting, dealing with parents, students and staff on a daily basis; we can sometimes forget the reason(s) we entered into the profession. Being accountable for test scores, keeping up with student data, making sure school is safe and secure, are a few factors that can be on your mind in the midst of interacting with students. It takes effort and balance to keep in perspective how adults speak to children, and how your words can build trusting relationships or block relationships from forming. I have witnessed and experienced what is shown in the video since my career in education began 30 years ago. Adults can put forth effort to watch their words...not only with students, but with colleagues.

Acing Math
I'm still thinking of ways to organize a morning math time to support and enrich our GT students as well as students that just need a little more support. Michael suggested a website called Acing Math (One Deck At A Time!) and using the 24 Game. I used the 24 Game when I taught 5th grade in Clover and the students absolutely loved it. If you have ideas or would like to help with planning Acing Math, please let me know.
We might be able to do 8 two week sessions where students come on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:20 a.m - 7:40 a.m. I'd like to begin on November 15th. Please send me any suggestions that you might have. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. It would be great if everyone could volunteer for one 2 week session.
