23 September 2022

Hello Kipling Families,

We had another wonderful week here at Kipling! Even as the weather gets a little chillier, spending time with the students outside at recess is a highlight for me every day. I love getting to see the kids play collaboratively in an imaginative game or work together in a competition. Their joy and kindness are contagious and I am so lucky to be a part of the fun. Just a reminder there is no school on Monday, September 26th.

Enjoy the long week!

SEL Spotlight (Social Emotional Learning)

Mrs. Ewert’s class has been focusing on their growth mindset and using the phrase “I’ll try” instead of “I can’t”. Recently, they worked with their 5th grade buddies from Ms. Kaulentis’ class to write/draw about something they can’t do yet but are going to work on.

District Communication

Panorama SEL Survey

Building students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) skills are important at Kipling. As a part of the learning process, we will be asking our 3rd through 5th grade students to reflect on their own SEL mindsets via an online survey. The survey will be administered between October 3rd and 14th, and it should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. It asks students to self-reflect on their own grit, growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, emotional regulation, and supportive relationships.

Individual student responses can provide the school and family with insight into what skills the child self-identifies as strengths and others they would like to develop. The overall data helps us (the educators) identify priorities and provide targeted learning opportunities to address the SEL needs in our classrooms.

Per policy, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey, please contact Hannah Eagle (heagle@dps109.org) no later than October 1st.

SHIELD Testing Concluding

Next Tuesday is the final collection day for SHIELD tests in DPS 109. For those participating, please ensure that your child drops off their completed test in the bin in our main entrance right as they arrive at school or inform their teacher that they need to do so when they get to class.
