Community Update
September 30, 2022
Dear AWRSD students, staff and families,
Thank you for another positive and productive week of learning. It is hard to believe that we are already over a month into the school year.
Again, my sincere thanks to the entire AWRSD community for your effort, collaboration and patience as we dealt with the unsubstantiated threat on Tuesday. I understand how deeply unsettling it is to have any type of emergency situation at any one of our schools, especially in the early minutes before we have full information. While I was very pleased with the overall response from the district and our public safety partners on Tuesday, we are using this situation, like any other we face, as an opportunity to reflect on and critique every aspect of our relevant procedures and protocols in service of constantly improving. Our leadership team has fully debriefed the situation and will continue to do so with our public safety partners in the coming days. I am again very thankful for the tremendous working relationship that we have with our fire and police departments in both communities.
Next Wednesday, October 5, JR Briggs Elementary and Overlook Middle School will participate in National Walk-to-School Day. ORHS students will again assist our younger students and participate in the JRB event. Meetinghouse School and Westminster Elementary School will participate in National Walk-to-School Day on October 12. Details for each school’s event will be distributed by individual schools.
We are nearing first progress report time at Overlook Middle School. We encourage parents and guardians at both the middle school and high school to review their family portal to stay on top your students’ progress. If you are a high school or middle school parent/guardian and you do not have access to the parent portal, please email accounts@awrsd.org.
The Ashburnham Westminster Foundation for Academic Excellence (AWFAE) will hold its annual Night for Excellence on Friday, November 18 at the Colonial Hotel. The AWFAE exists solely to provide supplemental support to our schools. This event is the foundation’s largest fundraising event every year. Tickets to attend this great event can be purchased HERE.
Thank you for your continued efforts and collaboration to make AWRSD the best that it can be. Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Stewart
Superintendent
