The Mustang Minute

January 25, 2019 - Issue 19

Another Thursday and another amazing performance by our Norwood Public School band program. Last night, I had the privilege of seeing the town wide Festival of Bands and it was fabulous! It is always amazing to watch the progression of talent from grade 4 through high school and the high school band blew me away. As a parent of a young violinist, it gives me hope that one day I will experience such a performance. The ones in my living room are great but not quite as mellifluous!

This week my grade 8 science teachers had some fun with the periodic table. They created escape rooms for their students that required some serious knowledge of the periodic table combined with the ability to solve puzzles. I'm sorry to say I may have been trapped for life with those requirements!

It was a weird weather week but we are definitely in winter! Have a wonderful and warm weekend!

Yankee Candle Fundraiser

CMS will be doing a Yankee Candle Fundraiser from February 22 to March 8th. All money from this fundraiser go to student activities including after school clubs, field trips, intramural sports, new materials for the school, and more. The catalogs will be coming home on February 22nd but Yankee Candle allows for the online sales to begin immediately with 40% of the sales going to the school. I have posted the link below - happy shopping and thanks for supporting our school!

Response to Vaping Concerns

I want to thank everyone that read and responded to my message on vaping. While it continues to be something that we are working on, it was clear that many students had conversations with their families about the subject. Students are feeling more comfortable reporting concerns about school and online to us and many parents shared what they knew as well. My hope is that this focus will help to eliminate vaping in school.

The PTO Meeting on Social Media is FEBRUARY 13th at 6:30 - sorry for the misprint in the connectEd

New Club at CMS

The Lego Club will have its next meeting on Tuesday, February 26 after school in the cafeteria. At Lego Club, students build meaningful relationships with peers through teamwork, practice critical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as develop patience, attention and focus. We are looking for donations of gently used Legos for our Lego engineers in the making. Please contact Rosie Healy at or Eileen Seigel at with any questions or to arrange to make a donation. Thank you!

Another New Club!

A debate Club was started this week at CMS. This past Thursday students got together with Mr. Gearty (7 Green Social Studies) for the for the first meeting of the debate club. Student interested in joining can sign up outside of room 202 or see Mr. Gearty.

Science Extras

Our Science Teachers go through a lot of consumables during experiments. Many of the items used are common household items we all may have at home. If you have any of the following items (UNOPENED) and are willing to donate them to CMS please fill out the sign-up genius. Thank you in advance for your support!

Chromebook Tips Update

  • Remind students that NOTHING should be stored inside their Chromebook case (except their Chromebook) when they close it with other items inside, it cracks the screen.
  • Try to keep the battery level above 10% dropping below can cause a hard shut down which can be difficult to restart and recharge.
  • Bring those earbuds!
  • Charge EVERY night!
