Spotlight Teachers of the Week
In Ms. Wiggins social studies class, students are being introduced to apartheid through a simulation. By assigning 15 percent of the class to "live" in 80 percent of the space as well as have power over the remaining 85 percent of the students and the classroom resources, students begin to understand life in South Africa during apartheid. Once the simulation is over, students spend time independently reflecting on how those with power acted as well as how those without power did.
