Parent Teacher Conferences: Please complete this survey regarding Parent teacher conferences. It should take 2 minutes. We will have conferences on October 14 from noon to 7:30. We need to decide how to utilize our 3.5 hours of work time.
Start of the year feedback: We are always looking for ways to continue effective practices and improve on mediocre or ineffective ones. This survey is to gain feedback from each of you about how the week of August 9th and 16th have went. It is anonymous unless you want to put your name at the end. All questions are optional. The goal is to utilize this information along with a list of notes that I have for improvement to make our experiences together more effective.
- 1st lunch - students should report directly to the cafeteria starting on Friday. Feel free to stop by and help make sure your students go to the correct seats.
- 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lunches - please enter the cafeteria through the northeast doors. This is the one that is closest to the chorus room. We may direct a couple class to get directly in line. All other classes should take a seat.
Lunch - Exiting procedures:
- Please be prompt with your exit, as we only have 3 minutes between lunches.
- Try to utilize the southeast doors, near the pool, as there may be a line of entering students at the northeast door. (If you are in 100A or 100B utilize the northwest door.)
From Emails
In your mailbox you will find 2 pads of post-it notes and a half sheet for student goal setting. The sticky notes and goal setting sheets correspond with some of the MTSS-B lessons.
The sticky notes are for the individual 4B's posters and for the classroom expectations lesson. If you need more please let me know and I will place some in your mailbox.
The student goal setting sheet is for the All Areas expectations lesson. I placed half sheets in your mail box if you have a 2A class. I have additional copies if you would like more or if I missed you.
Thank you!

FREE Jeans WEEK for Staff Who Join Us for Readers Are Leaders
Hi all!
Tomorrow we kick off the Readers Are Leaders program with our first rotation of library visits for the year! ELA teachers will visit the library every three weeks to give students the opportunity to get a new book to help promote reading!
Remember ALL staff can send students to the library as well - please use the QR code and limit it to one or two at a time from your classroom.
In addition to getting the students reading more, we want staff to participate as well! Reading improves your life and even helps you live longer! If you want articles on the subject just let me know!
All Staff can earn a FREE JEANS WEEK each quarter for participating! Here is what to do:
1 - Print off the attached 1st Quarter Choice Sheet (or pick one up in the office). Post it so kids can see your progress!
2 - Complete at least 5 of the activities and highlight them.
3 - Turn in your sheet to Mrs. Raszler by Friday, October 8th! (Mr. Karmazin will announce what week to wear jeans later!)
Also here is the spreadsheet the students will be using to keep track of their reading each quarter if you are interested. Please encourage them to use their finished early time for SSR! They need to earn 100 points to participate in the celebration each quarter. More to come on those - Covid may affect how we celebrate our readers.
Please stop by if you have any questions!
Mrs. Lisa Raszler
Picture Day Info (From Taylor)
Greetings,
Friday, August 27 will be our Fall Picture Day for both students and staff in the Boys & Girls Club gymnasium. Students will either make their photo purchases online or bring their money on picture day to give directly to the photographer. If you happen to collect any money beforehand, please give it to the photographer.
We will call students down in alpha groups throughout the day. 7th grade in the morning and 8th grade in the afternoon. The attachment shows the student groups and approximate times in which an announcement will be made calling them down.
8:00 - 9:00AM A - G 7th Grade
9:00 - 10:00AM G - M 7th Grade
10:00 - 11:00AM M - S 7th Grade
11:00AM - 12:00PM S - Z 7th Grade
12:00PM - 1:00PM A - C8th Grade
1:00 - 2:00PM C - H 8th Grade
2:00 - 3:00PM H - Z 8th Grade
A reminder that ALL staff will need to get their photographs taken before the end of the day on Friday, August 27th. We will call any staff down at the end of the day if we miss you.
In your mailboxes you will find student picture packets that need to be distributed to your CUBS/Advisory class as soon as possible.
So, students should bring their packets with them on Friday, August 27 if they are paying cash/check and give that to the photographer. You don't need to do anything except get your own professional picture taken.
Thanks!!

Lunch Adjustments: I double checked numbers for both A day and B day. I have emailed a few people from each lunch on simple modifications to the table arrangements. If you received an email, please follow that guidance as it will ensure that all students are able to sit in the cafeteria. Since today is the first "B" day, the 1st lunch group will need to escort their students.
Mr. Stimson: Mr. Stimson will be out of the building on Thursday and Friday to attend a funeral. If you have any issues that aren't pressing, please put them on the BMS Technology Request ticket in Teams. If they are urgent, please contact the help desk and they'll provide assistance. The leadership team can also attempt to fix items.

Verify Students: Verify students are in the correct classroom, if they are not, please direct them to the correct classroom with a pass. If a student enters late and you have already taken attendance, make sure that you change attendance and email Erika Chandler Gates. We had some students that entered class late yesterday or were in the wrong classroom. They were counted absent. Our system notifies parents at 9:45 and 3:05, so we want to ensure we are accurate with attendance.
Active Supervision: We will be running both passing periods today. Please make sure you are standing by your door, encouraging students to go to class during passing period. This is a great time to develop the 4x1 positive connections.
Dress for the remainder of the week: Jeans and BMS gear.
FROM EMAILS

Great job today everyone!

Mark your Calendar: The Bryan Middle School open house in September is officially on Tuesday, September 14 from 6 to 8 PM. This will feature the sharing of curriculum that is happening in your classroom. More information to come to help with planning. The January open house for incoming 6th graders is January 27 from 6 to 7:30 PM. Click here for all of the January open houses.
SCHOOL-WIDE MTSS-B Lessons: School Wide Lessons (Web view) This is the schedule for lessons with the links ready to go.
Information from Korth about 7th Grade only day - all previously shared.
Hi everyone! I will be putting schedules in your mailboxes for tomorrow morning. They are by 7th graders in your CUBS class. There may be a few tiny discrepancies with schedule changes, so you want them to refer to their schedule on their iPad as much as possible. All students have an account with IC Student and do not need a code to get in. Just their s-log in.
There was also one more tiny mistake on the bell schedule. The last part of the day is NOT an assembly, it is only CUBS. 2:50-3:05 CUBS.
8/13/2021: Hi everyone! I have attached the 7th grade only day directions and PowerPoint for Tuesday. Feel free to download and change the PowerPoint as needed. Please leave the schedule and lunch procedures conversation in the PowerPoint for discussion. I also included a map of the building for anyone who needs it.
If you have any suggestions or comments on how to improve the 7th grade only day, please let me know! I am open to making this day the best! I will not make you do any work on it 😉
INFORMATION PREVIOUSLY EMAILED.
Attendance Information: This was shared by Mrs. Chandler-Gates yesterday. Please make sure you have looked over the 1st period attendance expectations.
Handbook cards and SAFI paperwork in your box (From Dr. Williams) In your mailbox, you will find a list of your CUBS students clipped to a stack of handbook cards as well as SAFI packets (annual paperwork). We already handed out and collected a lot of SAFI paperwork and handbook cards, so you will notice that you don't have all of your students' stuff.
Please hand out the SAFI envelope to your CUBS students asap and ask them to return it asap. Please track who you gave it to and who returns it. If you have a SAFI packet that does not belong to you, please put it in my box. Completed paperwork can go to Mrs. Liekhus in the front office. Students may bring it the first day.
Regarding the handbook cards, please do the following:
- on your list, there are two columns of X's; the column on the left, next to the student name, is the handbook column. You should have a handbook card for every student without an X. Please make sure to collect all handbook cards for students who do not have an X in that left column. Check them off and return them to my box with the list attached.
- If you have a handbook card that does not belong to you, please put it in the shred box to the left of the mailboxes. Their actual CUBS teacher probably has one too.
- If you need a handbook card for a student in your class (either on your list without an X or not on the list), email me!
See me with questions.
Amy
Student Council: Here is the application.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Collins and I are going to do student council this year. I put a few applications in boxes of everyone that has a cubs class. If I missed you, please let me know. We are hoping you would be willing to briefly mention student council on Wednesday in Cubs and offer applications to anyone interested. I am attaching a copy in case you run out.
Thanks so much,
Holly Petersen
Attention - Club and Activity Sponsors:
Hi all!
I'm updating the activities/clubs page on the website. If you are doing a club or activity this year, please check and see if I have the information correct.
Thanks!

Information from the district:
From HR:
Beginning Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, Omaha Public Schools will move to a Single Sign-on (SSO) method for accessing TalentEd. This change will allow users to access TalentEd using the same credentials they would for Office 365. Staff will navigate to TalentEd as they have in the past, either through Office 365, OPS Anywhere, or through the district website. Staff will then be greeted with the TalentEd landing page where they will need to initially sign in using their Office 365 credentials. After successful login, users should be able to access the site normally as they always have. Staff may need to reauthenticate or log in for security reasons from time to time. This will be similar to the process of accessing the Clever system which already uses Single Sign-on.

My cell phone number: Feel free to program my cell number in and text me with questions or concerns. 402-880-1815. The first time you text, please identify yourself.
Start of the year lessons: We will be utilizing some class time from 8/18 to 8/23 to go over MTSS-B expectations. You can find the schedule and lessons by clicking here. School Wide Lessons (Web view)
Classroom Seating Charts: Please upload your classroom seating to this folder. You can also find a Tab within our Staff Handbook called Contact Tracing that has a link to the folder. All classrooms must upload a seating chart for contact tracing purposes. We do realize that students will be moving in and out of groups during your class, thus all students should wear face masks during your entire period. If you were to have a snack within your classroom, please have students go back to their initial seats.
Cafeteria Seating Chart: Please download the lunch seating chart template by clicking here. A copy is also placed in the Staff Handbook under Contact Tracing. You can either print the file and hand write the information in, or type into your sheet and print it. A paper copy should be placed in the 3-ring binder label cafeteria seating charts in the back of the cafeteria. We are having 6 students per table sitting in a zigzag fashion. Students will sit ON the bear logos in the cafeteria.
Morning Announcements: The prerecorded morning announcements are back again this year! I have added a page into our staff handbook called morning announcements. You can click here to access it: Morning Announcements (Web view). The stream announcements should be played at the beginning of 1st period everyday. The PowerPoints for morning announcements can be found by clicking here. If you have something that you wish to add to the morning announcements, please find the appropriate dated PowerPoint. You can add a slide. In the notes section, please include what you would like me to say. This would be information that the entire school would need to know, like athletic updates. If I have not created a PowerPoint for that date, please email me the information.
Student Schedules: As teachers have returned, we have found a number of small (and bigger) errors in the schedule. The most common error is an incorrect classroom attached to a course. Next week, if you find a discrepancy between a paper schedule and what you see in the computer, the computer is correct. Students can access their schedule in Student Portal.
Student Lockers: Students can access their locker information in Student Portal. Students are not required to use their locker and therefore can enter your classroom with a backpack.
Student Handbook/Code of Conduct: The code can be found here: 2021-22 Student Handbook/Code of Conduct (Web view). In addition, IMS has completed the process of uploading our school handbook to all student and staff iPads. It is loaded into the Books Application.
Middle School Planners: I'm sorry to report that there is a delay in receiving the middle school planners. We do not have an estimate on arrival time.
Adobe Licenses: If you feel you would use the adobe platform, https://creativecloud.adobe.com/, as an individual teacher, please let me know. I can purchase an individual license for you for $5. I plan to submit the information on Wednesday, August 18, so please let me know before then. We are looking at purchasing it for students in the digital media class with Mr. Grow.
Daily Smore: The daily Smore is back. If you have additional items that you want to add, please email Mrs. Liekhus. She is going to compile the information and send it to me.
Cisco Phone Training/Fax Training: These are optional training sessions today at 1 PM in the library.
Road Construction: The city of Bellevue has started a road construction project on 42nd Street in front of Bryan Middle School. This will be completed in segments. In the coming weeks, there will be temporary restrictions at the north school entrance on 42nd street while the contractor is transitioning between segment #1 and segment #2. During this time, staff may need to utilize the south parking lot. The main drive located in front of Bryan Middle School is one way, driving to the South. As construction moves forward, we will share additional information as this will impact our loading and unloading areas for buses.
Attendance Navigation System Attendance at school is a top priority, as students need to be present to continue to gain academically. Bryan Middle School will now be utilizing the attendance navigation assistance. Parents/guardians in the primary households who have active cell phones are notified at 9:45 am if they had a student with an unverified or uncoded absence. If a parent does not have a cell phone registered with the district, but they have a valid email, they will receive this notification via email. The parent/guardian can then respond to a link in the text message to tell us why the student was absent. These absences are re-coded into Infinite Campus at 3 PM.
Assistant Custodian: Congrats to Dre is who is moving from custodial aide to assistant custodian at Bryan Middle School.
Classroom Signage: Starting on Monday you will see new signs going up next to rooms at Bryan Middle School. These all should have braille on them and get the room numbers up to date. If you see any errors, please let me know.
Important Dates
8/23 - Staff Meeting
8/25 - MTSS-B Committee Meeting
8/26 - Team Leader Meeting
8/26 - Building New Teacher Meeting
Information previously shared
Parking (from security): Just a friendly reminder…beginning Monday there will be no parking in the bus loading and unloading zones. Parking will be available on the South side of the school and on the Northwest side of the school on the west side of the barricade.
Staff Likes List (From Ms. John):
Below you find the link to the Staff Likes List form! Please complete whenever you have time in the next couple of days (like when you need a fun break from setting up your classroom or in between sessions during curriculum day).
The form asks questions that are about the things you like, and the responses will be posted in the Bryan Middle School Staff (ALL) Team under the Files tab within the File titled 'Staff Likes'.
If you have any questions, shoot me an email! Oh! And Karmazin agreed that if we have 100% of teachers that fill out the form by the first day of school, we can have a jeans day on Thursday, August 19th!
GATE Sponsor Opportunities (From Mr. Garcia):
Good afternoon Bears,
This past year, the GATE students refused to let the pandemic stop them from succeeding at the highest level. The FERMI math league team won the district title and the SMP team were the Omaha Metro are champions. The Bookblasters team finished a strong 2nd place. The students have set the bar high for this upcoming year. My goal is to expand the GATE program with more opportunities and develop more community outreach partnerships. With that being said, I am looking for a few teachers to sponsor two GATE programs.
The two openings are:
- African American History Challenge
- Quiz Bowl
Each program has been well established, and the resources are readily available. The expectation is that the sponsor meets with the students at least once a week and attend all competitions that will be held this year. If you are interested, please email me and we can discuss the details in more detail.
Thanks,
GO BEARS!
