The Sailor Signal
Cottage Lake Elementary - September 25, 2022
A Note from Ms. Welch
Thank you to all our families who attend our grade level curriculum nights over the past two weeks. It was wonderful to attend each of the sessions and to see so many of you in attendance. Thank you!
We are in for another fabulous week at Cottage Lake! This Thursday is our PTA's Fun Run, Walk & Roll event. First, please read below for further details about the times our students will be outside participating in the event. Families are invited to attend. Any attending adult will need to sign in at the front office before coming to the field. Thank you! Second, each student will receive a Fun Run shirt they will wear during the event. This is being provided to our students from the PTA and Boosterthon. Lastly, THANK YOU for all you have been doing to help your student(s) register on the Boosterthon website and also helping to fundraise for us. On Friday, we had raised over $8200, with our goal of $20,000. I am excited to hear how much money we've raised as of Monday morning. Thank you for your continued support of our school!
This last week our school staff stepped in with minutes of notice to support our students on Wednesday during recess time while we watched the air quality change quickly. Without hesitation, we quickly reviewed the Air Quality Index and guidance from the health department. We notified staff which students needed to come to the gym due to health conditions and then during our last primary recess, the air quality was unsafe, so we brought all students inside. This could not have been possible without so many amazing staff jumping in! A special thank you to: Mr. Darling, Mr. Paganini, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Maynard, and Mrs. McKinnon.
We will be closing out September with a beautiful week ahead. We will start the week with warm and sunny weather and then transition into cooler weather by the weekend. Thank you for helping to make September great! I'm looking forward to our year together.
Take Care,
~ Jen Welch, Principal

COVID update
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students about COVID-19 case numbers and potential outbreaks. This past week, there have been a total of 3 confirmed cases for people who work at some point at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home and test for COVID-19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.

- Yearly complete a new background check form

PTA Reflections
PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity. Students of all grades and abilities may participate by submitting original pieces of work in 6 categories (Dance, Musical Composition, Visual Arts, Film, Literature and Photography) against the theme of "Show Your Voice!"
Students will create their work of art AND write a short artist statement. Judging is based on both the artwork and artist statement.
Our PTA can send 20 Reflections art pieces plus 6 Special Artist submissions to Northshore Council PTSA in December. Those students' works of art will be celebrated at a districtwide showcase in January. Council will judge the pieces in each category and some pieces will continue onto State PTA and National PTA for further judging. Regardless of where a student places, our PTA will celebrate any student artist who submits a piece of art for Reflections.
For more information and student packets (rules and forms) go to http://www.northshorecouncilptsa.org/reflections.html (make sure you scroll down the page to see the student packet links in each category).
Pieces are due to Buffy Anson no later than November 18th by midnight.
For any questions, please contact Buffy at buffyanson@yahoo.com
