Council for International Educational Exchange Scholarship Application Due Feb. 14
Dear Student or Parent:
I wanted to bring to your attention the immersive study abroad programs and great scholarships through a non-profit called CIEE (Council for International Educational Exchange). CIEE awards over $5 ½ million in scholarships, ranging from 10 – 100% of the cost, for these programs every year. Students in HISD have already been awarded over $200,000 so far in scholarships for travel on High School Summer Abroad Programs for the summer of 2020. Let's get some of this money for Fort Bend ISD!!! There is still $1 million in scholarship money available for this summer! You can tell your friends at other high schools as well. 🙂
In order to apply to study abroad and get a scholarship (either merit-only or merit + need), you will need to get your Application for a High School Summer Abroad Program (the only programs eligible for these scholarships) started. Go here, create a login, and then start an application. The deadline is Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020 at 11pm central time. Please note that flight cost is not covered by the scholarships.
Be sure to read the Tips for Scholarships and Applications below and this email thoroughly before you start your application! Note that there are a few things that require your school, a teacher, or a parent to respond or upload. So, give them all plenty of time for this!
If you are interested in these study abroad opportunities, you will find details below and further detail on their website.

Reach out to Jason Endicott (JEndicott@ciee.org) or Michelle Haney Brown (mhbrown@ciee.org; cell 737-228-7777) if you have questions or concerns.
Be sure to finish both applications if you elect to apply for a scholarship. You will begin by filling out the application for the programs you select. Then, when you elect to apply for a scholarship, a new tab next to the program application tab in your CIEE account will open that is the scholarship application. You must have everything uploaded (even what your parents, school, and teacher need to submit) before 11pm, February 14th if you are applying for either a Merit Only or a Merit + Need scholarship!
Don’t miss this life-changing opportunity and free money, and have a great weekend! 😊
Sincerely,

British American Foundation of Texas Scholarship 2 Week FREE program
Dear All
The British American Foundation of Texas is a 501c3 nonprofit that raises funds to offer academic opportunities to underserved students in Texas.
We have a Junior Achiever program open to high school juniors in Texas. This is a 2 week all expenses paid program in London, England. We cover all costs - program, flights, accommodation, food, transfers, passport fees etc and raise money to do so. In fact, we've been doing this for 13 years now and the British Studies Summer Program that our students participate in in the UK has been running for 20 years. In total there are up to 30 students participating from across the USA, we are the only providers in Texas and we have 10 places this year. Students spend their days visiting historical, cultural and political places of interest in the UK - Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Shakespeare's Globe Theater, Imperial War Museum, Tate Art Gallery, Oxford, Stonehenge, Bath, Portsmouth etc, accompanied and chaperoned by teachers from ACS International School Cobham, which hosts the students on their fantastic campus just outside of London.
Why?
We find that smart, underserved students with no blueprint for college are not aware of their potential and capabilities. They don't realize that they can leave their state, they can be more independent, they can step outside their comfort zone. Past students have returned from our program and applied to colleges out of state and attended Harvard, Brown, Smith, Bryn Mawr, Georgetown, University of Chicago, Northeastern, University of Pennsylvania, Notre Dame etc. This program really looks great on college applications. Hear what some of our past Junior Achievers have to say about their experience here.
Dates
Deadline for applications: 5pm on January 31st
Awards ceremony in Houston for selected applicants: Thursday April 30th
Leave Houston for London: Sunday June 28th
Return to Houston: Saturday July 11th
Cost
Again, no cost to anyone .... schools, ISDs, students or families. We are a nonprofit, we raise funds and we support young people in Texas in achieving their potential through education.
Caveat
Unfortunately, as this program involves leaving and re-entering the USA, it is not available to students who are not legal residents or citizens of the USA.
How to apply
Students apply online here by 5pm on January 31st. They will need a completed application form, teacher recommendation, academic transcript and essay. We are seeking students with a good GPA, low household income, some extracurricular activities and community service.
AES Scholarship Renewed - 2020

Amount of award: $500.00
