Bearcat Brief

October 5, 2018

Notes from Niki

Happy World Teacher's Day! I didn't know there was a World Teacher's Day until I got an email from Google with this link. There are inspirational videos, resources, and things to spark your interest in learning. Enjoy.

I hope you got the email from Dr. Smith with the details of our PD on Monday. I want to encourage everyone to dress comfortably. You might want to bring a snack since lunch will be later than normal.

Kindness Week

The PBIS Leadership Committee examines behavior data each month and targets problem areas and problem behaviors. One that was prevalent in this month's data was disruptive speech and foul language; mostly stemming from intolerance of others and their difference in abilities. Our solution plan involves a kindness week to make students more aware of the need for kindness and hopefully teach them how to be kind. Plus, you will have a chance to wear jeans all week- I have the flyer with the dress up days below. Here are the plans for the week:

Tuesday- Show this video at the beginning of the hour. We will do the pledge a little early, I will then make an announcement explaining the week, then play the video.

Wednesday- We will announce for students to be "spying" those who are kind to others. We will put enough shoutouts in your mailbox for your 7th hour class. Each student, at the end of the day, should write a shoutout to a kind classmate. Please collect those and return them to Niki's mailbox before you leave for the day.

Thursday- We are going to stay in 3rd hour classes for the Bearcat Time slot (5th grade will go to their homeroom) and do a kindness lesson/activity. Students can use the restroom and stretch their legs during the passing period, but then return to their 3rd hour classroom. Mrs. Barringer will have to head to the high school at this time, Debbie and Missy, please take choir. Kara, please help with the large PE class.

Friday- We will pass out the shout-outs that students wrote for one another. Please submit a Bearcat Brag centered on kindness by Friday.

All of the prep. material is in the Google Slideshow attached below. We will have the necessary materials for the lesson on Thursday in your mailbox by the beginning of the day.
