How this Disorder is Inherited
Albinism is an inherited genetic condition. Most forms of albinism are recessive, which means that a child inherited one abnormal gene from each parent. Certain types of Albinism such as Oculocutaneous Albinism are autosomal disorders whereas ocular is mainly sex-linked. Most children with albinism are born to parents with normal pigmentation. The goal of most treatments is to relieve symptoms. Treatment depends on the severity of the disorder. Treatments involve mainly protecting the skin and eyes from the sun. Wearing sunscreen constantly and being completely covered with clothes when exposed to the sun is common. Glasses are often prescribed to help vision problems and eye position.Eye muscle surgery is sometimes recommended to correct abnormal eye movements.
