GKMS 7th Grade Weekly Newsletter
Week of January 23rd, 2023
Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts
This week in ELA classes, students will read and analyze an independent learning story of choice. Students will answer our unit essential question, “what can cause a sudden change in someone’s life?” They will use examples and evidence from the stories we read during unit 3 to help support their thinking.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
This week, we continued to read about the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II. We used context clues to help us identify the meaning of unfamiliar words, and we created some of our own "nonsense words". Next week, we are going to read about and study Pearl Harbor. The skill we will focus on will be inferencing. Students are doing a great job on their Achieve 3000 articles, keep it up!
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students will be finishing up their Topic on Algebraic Expressions as well. We will focus on subtracting and analyze expressions before reviewing for our CSA which will be next Friday, 1/27.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
Students began Chapter 11 this week, Political Developments in the Early Republic. We learned about the challenges that Washington faced as President, and the departments in his cabinet. We also began to compare the nation’s first two political parties, the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. Next week, we will learn about John Adams’ Presidency and the Election of 1800. Towards the end of the week, we will take a quiz (CFA) over Chapter 11.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
This week in science, students will explore indirect relationships in an ecosystem. They have already learned how resource and consumer populations can affect each others’ population size, but what about populations that aren’t directly linked on the food chain. The concepts of competition and symbiotic relationships will be discussed. Our Populations and Resources Unit CSA will be sometime the week of Jan 30 - Feb 3.
