Principal Message
I hope you have settled into what is our new normal. I first want to tell you that we miss you all terribly and can’t wait until we get back to school! This past week, our teachers were not working, however, much was being accomplished across the district. Over 7,000 breakfasts and lunches were served and over 1,000 laptops were checked out to families. If you are interested in participating in the free meals program, our district has 30 sites where you can pick up a lunch for the day and a breakfast for the following day for your student. The pick up times are 11:00-12:00 at Brookdale Elementary and most large apartment complexes. You can see a list of all the meal sites at our website fpschools.org.
This week, you will be hearing from your teacher – by phone and email. Please be sure to accept the call, if it comes from a blocked number – it is most likely from us! Teachers will also be reaching out electronically to provide educational resources. All staff will have daily ‘office hours’ where they will be available to families and will be checking voicemails and emails daily. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
It is important to remember to keep a routine throughout the days. Set up a list of 'tasks' for the day that you want students to complete. When they finish the task they can check it off. This way, you can spend more time on certain tasks. When we come back it will be a lot easier to get children back into the school routine, if they have had a routine throughout the closure.
As we continue to experience this new normal together, I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate our way into the unknown. We will all learn to use different technologies and systems to support your students. I am so proud of our staff and the hard work they are already doing and I know it will become more comfortable for all of us in the weeks ahead!
Once again, I miss you all! Stay healthy, and I can’t wait to see you!

Report Cards
Last week we completed the end of our second trimester!
You should receive your child's report card this week. Often there is concern or confusion about report card grades, so here is a reminder of our scoring:
4- student is consistently working and demonstrating standards a year above grade level
3- student is consistently demonstrating mastery of grade level standards
2- student is approaching mastery of grade level standard OR grade level standards are still being taught and mastered
1- Student is far below mastery of the grade level standard
Remember, many of our students receive 2s as they are still mastering grade level skills. 3s mean they have grade level skills in this area. 4s are reserved for students performing above grade level.
As always, if you have concerns about your child’s report card, please contact their teacher.
