Christy's Column

Welcome to Christy's Column, December 2022 Edition

Dear Students,

I know this is a hectic semester, and you all are focused on final assignments and exam preparation. Still, I wanted to take a moment to express how vital gaining hands-on experiences are. Research, Teaching, Volunteer, and Internship experiences show you what you like and don't like, which can inform your career path. In addition, hands-on experiences give you evidence to speak about in your personal statement for graduate school and provide you with faculty and professionals who may be able to write you letters of recommendation. Please see our website for more information on how to get these invaluable experiences.

Are you actively applying to graduate school? Do you need a professional to review your Resume and Personal Statement? If so, please check out the following services:

Resume/C.V. Editing dropbox You can upload your Resume/CV and get professional feedback within 2-4 business days from professionals at Student Engagement Career Development.

Personal Statement Tutoring drop-ins or appointments You can drop in or schedule a tutoring appointment to help you write/edit your statements with the Writing Skills Improvement Program.

I'm excited to share that we will have at least 10 (probably more) events this spring 23 semester. I'm working hard to update the schedule on our website before you leave for break. Please bookmark the following page and check back often: Career Prep Events

Topics will cover:

· Social Media Marketing Certificate Info Session

· Interactive Resume Workshops

· Careers in Case Management

· Careers in Forensic Psychology

· From Psychology to Graphic Illustration

· The world of Sport Psychology

· I/O Psychology, Academia, and Industry

· Educational Psychology, from Graduate School to Careers

· Careers in School Psychology

· Careers as a Business Analyst

· And More!

In closing, If you have an idea for an event or want to learn about something specific related to career, professional, and graduate school preparation, please email me directly at I will see what I can do!

Training in Crisis Intervention and Victimology

I am writing you from the Pima County Attorney’s Office Victim Services Division. We will be conducting training in Crisis Intervention and Victimology starting February 7, 2023 and would like to let the community know about it. I have attached a flyer that includes our upcoming informational sessions.

This is a well-structured, comprehensive, and hands-on training. The training teaches basic crisis intervention skills, concepts, and techniques. In addition, it examines various types of crimes and the specific victimization dynamics that victims of the crimes may face, including common trauma reactions. This training is also the gateway into volunteering or participating in an internship with the Victim Services Division.

The training will be held at the Tucson Police Substation located at 1310 W Miracle Mile Rd. from 6:00pm-9:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday February 7, 2023 through April 4, 2023.

Anyone interested in attending the training or volunteering with the division must come to one of the informational sessions. (See attached flyer for details).

If you have any questions or would like additional material for distribution, please contact the volunteer coordinator at (520) 724-5525.
