MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
222nd ISSUE: March 4, 2022
From the Desk of Ms. Debra Novy
I know that as the Curriculum Director of our dear school I typically write a little something related to academics, but this week I have something else on my mind… Preparation.
We are very fortunate that through prayer, penance, self-denial, and reflection, we can celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. At Marian, as with all Catholics, our preparation began at our Ash Wednesday Mass. As penitential ashes were placed on our heads this past Wednesday, it provided all of us a reminder that we are going to die in this life so we can live, so we should be preparing for our eternal life in heaven. Our Lenten journey, therefore, will provide us with the tools we need to continue growing in our faith and with our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Students and staff are also preparing for the end of the third quarter. Though there are no end of grade period exams at the end of quarter three, there are other preparations that are required. Teachers are preparing to finalize students’ quarter grades which will account for 40% of the semester 2 grade. Students should be preparing through ensuring that they have all their quarter work submitted and any remediation opportunities completed so they can end the quarter successfully.
As we look a little further into March, our entire Marian Community is preparing for our two-day all-school retreat March 14 & 15. This retreat opportunity allows staff and students alike to stay in “retreat mode” as we pray, worship, participate in sacraments, and even have some fun sprinkled in, as we come together as a Catholic community to strengthen our faith and love of God. *This retreat also fulfills our students’ yearly retreat requirement. As Father Warren, the Theology Department, and even some student leaders prepare to lead this event, we pray that the fruits of their labor will have a profound effect on each of us.
Finally, as we welcome spring, we are preparing for so many other things at Marian. Our upcoming Musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” performing March 18 – 20, spring break, and the fast-approaching end to yet another school year, students are looking to what’s next. For our 9 – 11th graders, they have completed registering for their 2022-23 courses and scheduling has begun. For our seniors, it is looking forward to all the end of year senior festivities and preparing for their future (college/career). The time will go fast but will certainly be a wonderful journey… as long as we are prepared!
God our Father, You have a plan for each one of us, You hold out to us a future full of hope. Give us the wisdom of Your Spirit so that we can see the shape of Your plan in the gifts You have given us, and in the circumstances of our daily lives. Give us the freedom of Your Spirit, to seek You with all our hearts, and to choose Your Will above all else. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Thank you all for your part in our students’ preparation. God Bless…
