Student Orientation
- 9:00 - 10:30 6th Grade
- 11:00 - 12:30 7th Grade
- 1:00 - 2:30 8th Grade
What to expect upon arrival:
- Please park in the NE lot off of Pearl Road. Use the North entrance as the drive at the light is EXIT ONLY. We are expecting more vehicles than we have spaces for. So please be patient with the amount of traffic you may encounter as cars may be parked along aisles and around the perimeter of the lot, as well as people coming and going.
- Enter through the front doors, under the Strongsville Middle School sign, and head into the Commons.
- Match up your last name with the appropriate tables. There will be two locations that will be marked alphabetically: one for schedule pickup, the other for T-Shirts. Utilize both lines as to expedite the process. Maps of the building and parking lot for parent pick-up, and Informational Fact Sheets of SMS will be provided for parents/students, as well.
- Feel free to explore, walk around, find your locker and classrooms and ask questions as staff will be located throughout the campus.
- If you encounter any issues with your child's schedule, please visit the Chromebook Kiosk located in the Media Center. There, you may fill out your request/concern on site.
- Sample food items from our Food Service Department in the Commons
- Visit the PTA and Girl Scouts table in the Commons
- Mrs. Tanya Rogers will be available in room 145 during the 6th grade orientation to meet with parents and students of incoming orchestra members. Mr. Chris Chidsey will be available in room 143 during the same time to meet with parents and students of incoming band members. Both will have instruments on hand.
Please be mindful that staff have only recently been granted access to the building. Just like moving into a new home, it takes time to put away your belongings and create an organized, 'homey' environment. There may still be boxes out and supplies to be put away as you visit classrooms in the building. I commend our staff for making such progress in a such a short period of time.
Note:
If you are not able to attend, an alternate orientation date is not available. However, you may come up to the main office sometime between 1:00-3:00 and pick-up schedules and other items that were passed out during orientation on Saturday. Teachers will be working on/in their rooms in preparation for Tuesday.

Drop-Off/ Pick-Up of Students
After-school pick-up will be a bit different. Cars will enter the north end of the lot but ARE NOT PERMITTED in the bus loop- which is the perimeter of the parking lot. Cars will be directed down the aisles of the parking lot as to not create a traffic jam onto Pearl Road or get in the way of any of the buses. ALL cars must wait patiently until the buses leave for dismissal (approx. 3:15) and clear the lot. Only then will cars be permitted to leave the parking lot and back out onto Pearl Road.
Please remember this is only temporary and that a smoother, more efficient traffic pattern will be implemented upon completion of construction. If you must pick your child up after school, I recommend car-pooling, if possible, to relieve the amount of cars in the parking lot.
Staff members will be in the parking lot during the first few weeks to assist with the flow of traffic.

Morning/Afternoon Procedures
The dismissal bell rings at 3:00. Students will have 8-9 minutes to do what they need to do then board their buses. Buses will be dismissed at 3:10. Please let you child know the importance of time management before the start of school and after the dismissal bell.
First Day of School
- 6th Grade student ONLY, will report to their Team Pod where they will attend alpha-homeroom. Last name ranges will be posted on doors and within Team Pods so students know exactly where to go.
- 7 Grade students will report to their 1st period class when dismissed from the Commons.
- 8 Grade students will report to their 2nd period class.
There will be plenty of staff members on hand to assist students.
Classrooms Are Just About Ready To Go!
Green / White Days
For example: Week 1: M/W/F Green Days, T/TH White Days
Week 2: M/W/F White Days, T/TH Green Days
During weeks that are shortened by holidays, snow days, etc, we will simply start where we left off. So if Friday was a Green day and we have Monday off, then Tuesday will be a White day.
