Two shoes went clomp, clomp.
After we read that story we shared a favorite of mine: The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams. In this story we learn about an old lady who isn't afraid of anything and follow her along for a walk through the woods. She eventually comes across two shoes that say clomp clomp, a pair of pants that go wiggle wiggle a shirt that goes shake shake and so on until she sees a big scary pumpkin head that says boo boo. The woman runs home and locks herself in her house until they come knocking. The little old lady wants the items to leave but is told they just want to scare her so they come up with a plan and on the last page we learn that they became a scarecrow.
The kids love the repetitive nature of the story and the chance to act out the clomping, wiggling and shaking. Both classes had already heard the book in their room before coming to the library so it was even more fun as they had confidence and excitement when we got to those parts of the book. Familiarity sure does make them feel good about themselves and their abilities!
We had a great time together and I can't wait to see them all in the parade! Please let me know if you have any questions: jennybrenner@ccaschools.org
