Blaze Bulletin
Edition 3 - August 29th
Greetings...
Dear Teachers,
Just a reminder to go ahead and do one of your classroom visits for this semester. Visiting and debriefing with colleagues is a great way to reflect on skills and/or learn new ones. We have so many wonderful folks to watch - and don't forget to think outside your own department as well! And, if you need direction (want to see something specific), please ask. I'll be glad to help.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Leisa Justus

Inservice -- How to get FREE money for your classroom!
Have you ever thought about writing a grant for the Nissan Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Mini Grant? Approved grants are for up to $500 and the process is fairly simple.
Join us for a 1 Hour Inservice on Tuesday, 9/6 in the library on information on writing a grant. Not sure if your idea or project is grant-worthy? Come, there are ALL types of projects that are getting funded! The next MiniGrants are due by mid October, so let's get started now.
Email me to let me know that you are coming so I have copies for everyone. Really, come! There is money to be had!
SHMOOP
As you know, the county has purchased Shmoop for all of our students. This is a great opportunity for students to practice ACT (and other things) and for teachers to direct student study - all in a format that appeals to kids and gives us valuable feedback.
On September 7 and 8, Holly Hunter will be set up in D17 all day to train all of our teachers. Every teacher should pick one planning period to attend on one of those days. The set up has changed, so even if you were trained and used it last year, you need to attend.
On September 19 from 3:45-4:45pm, a more advanced session will be held in D17 for those who are interested.
Sept 7 or 8 = Shmoop 101
Sept 19 = Shmoop 201
Senior teachers and students and parents will be getting information soon from Holly Hunter so that seniors who are re-taking the ACT can practice before the October 22 exam. Senior teachers, please encourage/assign students to study in this way.
Important Sub Info.....
When you get a message that says, "pending approval," don't worry. The job is being filled. I just can't approve until the day you are absent.
There is a box that says, "approval comments," you don't have to put any remarks or explanations. The only thing you are required to do is put in the reason code on the drop down menu.
I hope this is helpful as we navigate this new system!

Technology Minute
Watch this week's instructional technology minute highlighting Turning Off Clutter in Email. Clutter is a feature of Office 365 Outlook that automatically tags emails as "low priority" based on use. Emails sent to BHS_STAFF often get sorted into this folder. Watch the video to learn how to turn off clutter to ensure all email items go to your inbox. https://rcschools.sharepoint.com/portals/hub/_layouts/15/PointPublishing.aspx?app=video&p=p&chid=d9fb8e9a-cf27-40b7-9b34-4471f39cf3ad&vid=1c4070b4-0ca9-4c38-98a7-48ffffbfe0f3&from=1

SAVE THE DATE....SEPTEMBER 9TH - ANNUAL FACULTY & FAMILY COOKOUT
Greetings! It's that time of year again! Football time at Blackman!
For those of you who are new to BHS, we traditionally have a faculty cookout before the first home game. It is an awesome time to fellowship with colleagues and meet their families.
This year it will take place on Sept. 9 beginning at 5:00 pm. It will be inside the stadium area this year instead of in front of the gym as in years past.
Please RSVP to let me know if you are coming. We need to know how much food to purchase. I would like to know by next Friday, 9/2.
Tell me how many adults and how many children are coming with you.
Let me know if you or someone in your group has any dietary restrictions.
Bring a blanket or camp chairs to sit on and be ready to have fun!
After eating, we will all sit in the same area of the stadium and cheer on our Blaze as they defeat Shades Valley!!!
Football is excited to recognize teachers that night and has invited us to picnic in the end zone as well!
SAVE THE DATE....September 26th 11:00-2:00 p.m. WELLNESS ON WHEELS
Risk Management will be available to the staff to hand out goodies, offer assistance with the online health risk assessment, and give information about the MedPoint clinics. Please stop by the Front Office/AP Conference for more information!
Feedback from others: How can it be useful?
