Child ID Kits

In 2022, the South Carolina General Assembly unanimously passed S.1103. The legislation codified the South Carolina Child ID Program as a partnership to protect children between the Attorney General and the Department of Education.

Child identification kits have been provided to all K-12 students in South Carolina through a partnership with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, South Carolina Department of Education and their corporate partners Duke Energy and Dominion Energy.

As a parent or guardian, you have the opportunity to request an inkless, at-home child ID kit. This kit should take less than 2 minutes to complete, never enters a database, and should be stored solely by you, as a parent or guardian, in a cool, dry, safe place at home.

Please understand there is no obligation to fill out the kit; however, it will allow you to have your child’s vital information, fingerprints, and DNA in a safe place should there come a time when you need it.

These kits are to be STORED AT HOME and should only be given to law enforcement in case of an emergency. At no time should the child ID kit be returned to the school. This kit should be kept with the parent or guardian for personal record.

To request a free child ID kit, please reach out to the school’s front office.

Testing Event for Potentially Gifted Students - Registration due by noon on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, CTC Testing Registration

GT Screening Registration Form: Click here

There are many inquiries about how students are chosen to participate in Gifted Programs and to attend the Charles Townes Center for highly gifted students, located within Sterling School. The criteria can be found on this website: (CLICK HERE!)

Many private schools in our area do not administer nationally normed aptitude tests along with an achievement test. For that reason, on Friday, April 28, 2023, there will be an opportunity for students who reside in Greenville County and attend school here (home-school, private school or public school) to take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). If your child has already taken an aptitude test within the past two years, or if his/her school administers this testing, it is not necessary for your child to participate. You can submit those test results by email to Jane Snyder at jsnyder@greenville.k12.sc.us. Upon reviewing data from this testing event, we will determine if other testing or information is necessary for your child to be identified as Gifted and Talented. The results of the April testing will be available by mid-May. You will be notified by email.

Please submit your information in the registration form by noon on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Please return a form for each child that you wish to have tested. If your child has any special needs, please note them in the form. You will receive confirmation of your child’s registration by April 17, 2023.

Testing will be administered at Overbrook Child Development Center located at 111 Laurens Road, Greenville, SC. Students and parents should check in at the front of the school between 12:45-1:00.

Students will be tested in small grade level groups to allow appropriate distancing and monitoring. Please have each child bring 2 pencils for testing. Allow two hours for your child’s testing which includes breaks for them. If you feel that your child needs to have a snack for one of the breaks, please send it in an individually wrapped package. Also, students should bring a water bottle.

During testing, parents may sit in the lunchroom and wait for their children. There will be plenty of time for you to ask questions, too!

4K Registration

4K programs are offered at various elementary schools and six child development centers across Greenville County. Children who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2023 are eligible to apply for this free program. Priority for 4K placement is based on risk factors such as academic or developmental needs, low family income, or low parent education level. Parents will be notified of application status by April 1, 2023. Click HERE for more information.

Yearbooks

All yearbook orders will be online this year. Yearbooks will be in ALL COLOR and cost $20.00 if you PRE-ORDER. Orders will be open February 1st through March 31st. Only a limited number of extras will be available in the spring, so be sure to pre-order.

Scan the QR code or use the link below beginning on February 1st to order: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/prdembd?ref=00MAEGW2N60V0H2_ZZ5X5U4NSBKSKGT

ARMES Nominations

The A.R.M.E.S PROGRAM (Arts Reaching Middle and Elementary Schools) is a tuition-free, rigorous, artistically gifted and talented program designed to meet the needs of identified 3rd - 8th grade Greenville County students. Students who are selected into the program attend class afterschool 2-3 times a week. Students must provide their own transportation. Participation in ARMES is part of the district’s Gifted & Talented program so regular attendance is required.

NOMINATIONS for the 2023-2024 school year will open February 1, 2023 and close April 3, 2023. Rising 3rd through 8th grade students may be nominated by a teacher, parent, adult, or self. All interested students must have an on-line nomination form completed by the deadline of April 3, 2023. Late nominations cannot be accepted. Required auditions for the ARMES program will be held May 1-12, 2023. Audition information will be emailed to students and parents in mid to late April. If someone other than the student or parent nominates a student please be sure the student and parent are aware.
