The Circus is Coming to Town

We had a great week back from Fall Break. We continued to learn more about pumpkins as we examined what was inside of them. Our costume parade was a success, lots of fun had by all. All of the costumes were fantastic!
During the next week our theme is Circus. We will read Circus by Lois Ehlert and spark our creativity as we explore the different events of the circus. We will have a silly clown relay at school on Tuesday with a couple other classrooms.

Weekly Skills

During the next week we will work on a variety of preschool skills. These skills are modified to make sure they are appropriate for the variety of ages we have in our class. Below is a list of some of the skills we will work on during our Circus theme.
  1. Identifying a letter versus a number.
  2. Labeling capitol and lowercase E.
  3. Tracing with little deviation.
  4. Making shape and letter approximations
  5. Completing an 8-24 piece puzzle
  6. Following directions to complete a task
  7. Completing tasks in large group activities.
  8. Demonstrating appropriate social skills during large group activities.
  9. Demonstrating one-to-one correspondence to 5 and 10.
  10. Putting letters and numbers in the correct order.

Home Activities

As we work on a variety of skills during the next two weeks we look for further reinforcement of skills at home. This continued encouragement of concepts will increase understanding and application of those skills. Below are activities to do at home.
  1. Use the activities attached in the e-mail to reinforce a variety of skills.
  2. Use a variety of different sized clothes to play dress up with your child and pretend to be clowns.
  3. Pretend to put on your own circus acts. Who will be the silly clowns, who will ride the elephant and who will juggle?
  4. Sensory exploration-use shaving cream to make shapes and letters in. Add paint to make colors in the shaving cream.
  5. Please send in pictures of items that start with the letter E for our letter board.
  6. Get tickets to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. I recently read they are coming to Bankers Life Fieldhouse from Thursday, 12/5-Sunday, 12/8. Could be fun if your family is interested.

  1. Please send in more extra clothes for your child. We will take the new ones you send in and exchange them with the old ones. The cooler weather means we need long sleeves and long pants extra clothes. Thanks!
  2. We will continue to go outside even as the weather gets cooler. Please send your child to school with a coat/jacket, hat and gloves depending on the weather.
