NCSD AND OXFORD STRONG FUNDRAISER
The Novi Community School District is joining the MHSAA, MIAAA and surrounding districts in a statewide fundraiser for the Oxford Community Memorial & Victims Fund. Oxford Strong apparel can be ordered from www.supportoxfordstrong.com. T-shirts, for example, are $20 with $16.20 donated for each sale.
The Oxford Strong apparel can be worn for free admission into designated Middle School and High School athletic events on four dates in February (see the flyer for dates and times). Apparel should be ordered online no later than January 18 to ensure home delivery before our first showcase game.
Additionally, NCSD will have a district-wide Oxford Strong Navy and Gold Day on February 4. Wear an Oxford Strong shirt or any other navy and gold attire on that day to show support. Please note that in order to receive free admission into our designated athletic events, Oxford Strong apparel must be worn, not just navy and gold apparel. For more information on how to order Oxford Strong apparel, click the link below.
Thank you for your consideration and Go Wildcats!
INTRAMURAL SPORTS INFO
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.
COUNSELORS CORNER
Upcoming Virtual Chat about Tweens, Teens and their Screens
Does your Meadows student have their own phone or personal device? We are seeing an increased number of students with phones and Apple watches. We are finding that these technologies can not only cause distractions, but also lead to ongoing peer issues. Please be sure to talk with your tween about the responsibility of having a device and the importance of protecting their safety and mental health. Verizon offers some guidelines in this article.
REMINDER: devices are not allowed out at school and must remain in their backpack or locker at all times during the school day.
If you would like more information or would like to join a discussion about kids and technology, please consider attending a virtual conversation.
Here is additional information about the event:
Parents of tween and teenage children, this is some screen time you do not want to miss. Parenting expert Julie Fisher is logging on to discuss best practices of parenting in the digital age including real-life examples of online mistakes and how to prevent them, mobile device etiquette, texting trouble, social media rules, program apps, parental controls, cyber-bullying and more.
Please register before January 23, 2022 at 6 PM at https://jlive.app/events/1370

5th/6th GRADE CAMP
Your son/daughter will be attending camp this year with his/her classmates and teachers at the Walled Lake Outdoor Education Center. This is a science based program that is directly related to the curriculum taught in elementary school. At the Walled Lake Education Center, students became part of the web of life; they experience nature first-hand and learn about the impact they have on their environment. The goal of the program is to provide students with an integrated, experiential curriculum to increase awareness, appreciation and understanding of the natural world.
This year will include both 5th and 6th grade. Each class will attend and participate in two days of activities returning home at the end of each day. Transportation is provided to and from camp from the school.
The following dates have been scheduled for the listed classes. Click the thumbnails below to enlarge the images:

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities

DROP OFF TIMES AND FLOW OF TRAFFIC
This year we have modified our drop off times for the beginning of the day to help with traffic and congestion on Taft Rd. We will be opening the doors to Meadows at 7:15am (School still starts at 7:30am).
Students who are taking a bus, parent drop off, or walkers will be able to enter the building at this time. Students will go to their respective cafeteria and wait until 7:20am. At that time they will be released to their classrooms.
If you are a parent who drives their students to or from school, please make sure to pull all the way up to allow for the maximum number of cars along the sidewalk. In addition, if you are able to carpool, that might help to alleviate the large number of vehicles in the line.
In addition, please do not drop students off in the middle of the parking lot. This creates an unsafe situation for them and for other drivers who are trying to navigate a busy area. Please wait in the line and drop them off along the curb. They should always exit the vehicle on the right.
Parents of 6th graders who are dropping off students should be aware that buses will need to use the left lane and turn in front of the 6th grade house to access the loading area for students. Please do not block the driveway.
Thank you again for your patience as we focus on getting students to and from school safely.
Sincerely,
Principals Fenchel and Brickey
FOOD SERVICES
Breakfast will be grab and go and eaten in the classroom. Students will make their lunch selections in the morning with their teacher in the classroom. At lunch time students will use their ID badge to receive their individually packaged meal and check out with the cashier. Remember to add funds to your student's account through PowerSchool.
