WMS Weekly Bulletin
January 28 - February 2, 2019
I came across an article this last weekend that peaked my interest.
The title was, "Teaching is as Stressful as an ER." Our family has several friends who are doctors and nurses who have worked or do work in an emergency room. Hearing their stories is almost always overwhelming with the amount of information they have to process to take care of the slightest of injuries all the way to trauma care.
Take a moment to read through these highlights:
There is something going on in the back of the room. Two students are fighting over a piece of paper. The paper rips. Shouting begins. All of your students suddenly turn their attention to the back and you feel out of control. There’s just five minutes left and you still have to cover one more important point in your lesson.
In fact, half of the students in schools across America have experienced some form of trauma, violence or chronic stress.
In the face of these challenges, it falls increasingly to our educators to provide the supports that our young people need. And for teachers to assume this responsibility, they need to not only be regulated, calm, and grounded, but also learn to be powerfully present and emotionally responsive in their classrooms.
As we prepare to take on another week and begin arguably one of the more difficult months of the school year, take a moment for yourself when you need it. Call a colleague or administrator to come give you a break, ask Siri to tell you (and your class) a joke, join some friends for happy hour on Friday, or simply take some deep breaths.
We are all in this together and be looking for some fun surprises over the course of the next several weeks to keep you smiling and less stressed.
Go Warhawks! And, remember, you belong here.

Week in Review
Technology Tool of the Week - GoFormative
This could be very powerful for tracking data for this round of CAST/SLOs.
Technology Updates
- All staffulty should make sure to book computer labs as soon as you are planning for a lesson that will require being in the lab. Labs may be booked up to 6 weeks in advance as noted in our teacher technology expectations from the beginning of the year. All computer labs may be booked through Mrs. DeBerry's room reservation form on the WMS Staffulty Go page.
- Due to a large amount of lab usage, please do not use student computer labs for planning or teacher work days to plan in. If a small group or department needs laptops for a planning day, please see Ms. Peterson and she may check you out the proper number in the front office for the day.
- Reminder: please have all students restart at the end of the school day when using a technology cart from the library. A good technique to use is have your last period turn their computers around in the process of shutting down so you can easily observe that students have fully completed the task. This allows the teacher on the following day to start with working laptops with no loss of instructional time.
