The First Battle of Bull Run
Chapter 16 Section 2
What is this all About?
The Battle of Bull Run began when 30,000 inexperienced Union troops commanded by General Irvin McDowell attacked a smaller, equally inexperienced Confederate force led by General P.G.T. Beauregard.
What Happened?
The Yankees drove the Confederate back at first, and then the Rebels rallied.
The Rebels came at the Yankees with a unearthly scream which caused the Yankees to run. The Yankees dropped their guns and bags and ran.
How Did it End?
The Yankees collided with Civilians, fleeing in panic back to Washington, D.C.
The Confederates had won.
